  1. I just got a new 'Naiko N2051' DVD player from Makro (UK). I was gonna get the philips 612, but this one looked very good fopr the money and had more features - plus it was very solidly built for the money with full rgb and optical input.

    aaanyway.....

It ws only £100 and gives out a very clear sharp picture.
It plays DVD/VCD/SVCD/CD/MP3....and can even ff/rw vcd's and also play them fast and slow-mo.

    But:

I have tried out vcds with it and get excelent results...they even run if its just an mpg on a cd (or in any dir) as a menu comes up to search for them )

However - I tried my one and only SVCD and when it loads up the drive makes a continous whirring noise and fails to load. If I press stop the disc time says 22 mins, when I know for a fact the disc has a good 40mins + on it. I have watched this disc on my pc several times before so its not the disc I don't think.

I have heard of similar problems to this before - os anyone got any ideas?

I bought this to play svcds on and it definitely supports them (even has it written on the front of the actual unit).
I burned it with cdr-win from a bin/cue file by the way.

Can't find anything on it on the net..probably a very little known chinese make or something,

    Help me!!!

    A600,

I will try. First, did you D/L your test clip from this web site?
    * I've noticed that some of them have there Mbit pretty high! ie, 2300 (I think)
Also, you didn't say what DVD player you are testing the sample clips
    on?

So, given the above, that may be your problem.
However, if you haven't already tried, head on over to my web site and download
a couple of clips or too (ALL) and test drive them on your dvd player. They ALL
look good on both my Apex AD-500 and AD-1500 players!
All the clips there were encoded with 2520max/1850min. Mbits, should be
well within the spec for SVCD (though mine are xSVCD cause the res. is 352x480
    instead of 480x480)

I don't know how you are gauging your clips vs others you are D/L'ing, but the
following are what I have to offer for your guaging at my web site (below):
    * DC10+
    * Haup Wintv pci (old card from 96)
    * ATI-TV Wonder
    * PVR (my usb capture unit)

All the above are for burning to CD (SVCD), If you're usign Nero, then you
should turn off compliance, (that's if you have problems) and good luck!
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
Visit my WEB site for some ( ATI-TV Wonder/PVR usb/Haup WinTV PCI/DC10+ ) Latest samples
    * compare what you have with what I layed out for you all (guage)
I believe that these are a big improvement over the others I've
seen here at this site (for guaging)

  4. What are you using to burn the SVCD with? Nero is the best and most reliable one to work in your standalone.
There is even an option in Nero to make the player think its a vcd playing. Thats helps for some standalones.
Click Super VCD under Nero. THen Compatibility button, THen pick your choices.
Try EntryVCD option. Does the movie work on your computer using a software DVD Player? If it does work fine then thats your problem.

  5. Ok,

The SVCD is 3 pass 1900 bitrate, so it shouldn't be pushing the players limits.

Don't know if I am really allowed to post this but...the SVCD is Angel.Eyes.DvDRip.TCS so it comes as 2 lots of bin/cue.

Therefore I can only really burn it with cdr-win or fireburner, both of which I have tried to no avail.

I have also extrated the mpg file from the bin which came out at 792megs from the bin of size 803mgs. hopefully this will allow me to try and burn with nero....

How on earth am I meant to burn that on to an 80 min disc unsing nero? It works fine from the bin and cue files and plays on my PC, just not on my DVD player

    Your help is much appreciated
