  1. I'm looking at purchasing a Philips dvp642. Will it playDivx videos if they are burnt to a cd-r disk?
    Will it play AVI's ?

  2. Yes, in the AVI package, but "Global Motion Compensation", and "Q-Pel" aren't supported. They usually aren't enabled by default.

DivX Codec has a "Home Theater" preset, that makes it easy.

Stick with MP3 or AC3 for the audio track.

CD-R or DVD-R, it supports both disc formats.

  4. Yeah, but it is really picky. Some files wouldnt playback audio, alot had cropping and aspect issues, some files would not play (home theatre profile I think). But it plays them, about 65/70% of my collection. It was easier for me to just watch them via the tv out function of my video card so I took it back (it was faulty anyway and wouldnt play dvds)

My advise is dont rely on it to play your preburnt video collection amassed from up to 4 years ago. That said its the best standalone out there atm for the price anyway so just get it if ya need one.
