the film factory and aspect ratios

Hi can anyone pleae help me.

I have a .avi that I am converting to dvd with the film machine however on completion the sides of the picture appear to have been cropped.

This is presumably due to the choice I made when running the program however I cant remember which choice I made and this means if i try again I could use the same settings and have the same problem.

I have run the .avi through Gspot and it says the aspect ratio is 1.85:1.

Please can i ask two questions:

1. What aspect ratio should I be using ?

2. Can somebody please give me a quick tutorial on aspect ratios ?

in this program select "keep aspect ratios and add borders"

and select 16:9
