  1. I am goin to buy a Pioneer 108 soon and my DVD-ROM right now is gettin kinda old. I need another DVD drive so i can copy dvds str8 from one to another. I will be ripping dvds too and i heard dvd writers are poor at ripping but then having another dvd writer doesnt sound so bad if another messes up. so should i buy the 108 and say a NEC3500a or just the 108 and another DVD-ROM?

I would get which ever burner you have a preference for. I have the Pioneer 108 and love it. I also have a liteon DVD-rom 167t, That rips very fast. You can have both for around 110.00 bucks from New Egg.

  4. It could be lite-on, but I am pretty sure it's LG that has a newish dvd burner out that that is unlocked and will rip at a pretty decent speed. There was a review somewhere comparing it to the liteon, pioneer, and nec.

About all DVD-ROMs read dual-layer since that's what most commercial movies come on. I wouldn't think you'd have any trouble finding one that reads DL +R.

    Hello,

Actually I remember reading that the recordable dual layer discs had some problems reading even in dvd single layer burner drives. I'm sure firmware has fixed that by now.

Just check the manufacturers website for compatibility.

I would buy an LG DVD-ROM and a Pioneer DVD burner drive. That's my favorite combo right now.
