  1. I have some DVDR which I would like to edit in Pinnacle Studio 9.

What is a good and lossles method to get one *.mpg (MPEG 2) file from all the *.VOB files?

    Thanks for your help.

  2. Easy and simple method I have been using lately (although there a number of other ways to do this)... join and save the VOB's as a single .MPG or .VOB with Simple File Joiner. It's freeware and works just fine.

VOB's are already MPEG2 video files. There is no re-encoding or conversion required. The .VOB extension is used for DVD-Video compliant file structures, that's all.

So, can you insert all of the .vob files and save as an .mpg file then? This would make my life considerably easier if I could...does it work this way?

  4. It works fine for VOB's from DVD recorders... if you are working with a commercial DVD that has multiple audio files (languages), subtitles, etc. then you would probably need to demux the streams you are interested in first.

Thanks for the reply!! I just joined some videos together and have come across a potential (?) problem...

After joining them together, the video file length shows up as only 10 minutes 50 seconds long, but it's actually 4 hours long. When you play the video, it goes up to 10 minutes and 50 seconds and after that, it just keeps playing -- the counter stops. Is there a way to correct the timecode information?

How do you typically proceed? Do you just add the .vob files and call the new file whatever.mpg? Or did you rename the original .vob files?

Not sure how that would make a difference, but maybe it does!

  8. Yeah, I just line up the VOB's in the right order and then save as a MPG. Has worked fine every time. Maybe try saving the VOB's to your hard drive first... sometimes programs hiccup when working directly off of a disc.
