  1. A simple question, if I may, please:
Is there an SVCD Authoring programme that will allow me to shrink a file/video down so I can make an SVCD disc - somewhat similar to the DVD Shrink programme?
Nero has been unable to shrink down my video(s) small enough to make an SVCD from them and I have been forced to make a VCD disc (and often it has been too big to make one of these too) - but these have no chapters etc.
    Best wishes, V

When I used DVD2SVCD, it would do that by the selection of the disc size. Of course, that was for a DVD source.

you can use rejig to shrink the mpg. if your source is avi then use some other mpeg video encoder.

I thought that SVCD was a rather set format, inthat it had to have a specific resolution, bit rate.... and that the only way to make a longer video was to use something like kvcd. Am I wrong.

no, you can use different bitrates on a svcd. click on svcd in the super secret menu here to the left.

  7. Thank you for all the help - including the super secret access, Baldrick, LOL - but what "other mpeg video encoder" should I/could I use to shrink the file/film down to less than the 700MB required to fit it on the disc, please? Most of my videos are avi format, I believe. None of the programmes I have appear to have a "shrink" feature - only the wife, LOL!!

For others helping out here, thank you, but I don't want to convert my file to DVD and then re-convert to a smaller SVCD file later - too much loss in quality, and I STILL have not mastered how to sync audio to video if they are out, and trust me, I have spent DAYS trying to re-sync my files/films without success.

You can only fit 45 minutes to 1 hour on an SVCD, depending on CD size abd bitrate. Anything longer will have to be split across multiple disks, or coinverted to DVD. DVD2SVCD will do the splitting for you.
