    Hello,

You MAY be able to. I think I read somewhere you could do svcd 5.1. BUT it won't be 100% compatible if you can even get it to work. Why bother at all when single layer dvd burners can be had for $50 USD and under these days????

    SVCD with AC3 - no.

SVCD with multichannel MPEG - maybe. But most players just downmix that to stereo anyway so it's a waste.

You can use Dolby Surround if you have a Prologic decoder. That encodes the surround information in to the two stereo channels, so it will work with standard MP2 audio. It doesn't really compare to real multichannel audio, though.

You can author and burn SVCD with ac3 audio and it will play on your computer but I doubt there's a standalone anywhere in the world that will play it. AC3 is simply not part of the SVCD spec.

  9. You could use DVDLab and use the SVCD video file(M2V) and the AC3 audio file and then author as a DVD. It will give you a compliancy warning with the video file but if your DVD player is SVCD compliant it will still play.

  11. SVCD with AC-3? No. SVCD with 5.1 multi-channel Mpeg audio? Theoretically possible, IF you have a multi-channel MPEG amp AND a compatible, multi-channel MPEG SVCD player. (mostly Phillips).

IF you have such equipment, made the disk, and actually got it to work in 5.1, and reported back with success, you would be the FIRST confirmed success story in this arena I have seen.

You might try creating a data disk on CD with AC-3, if your player plays files this might work. Sort of a mini-DVD, which also might work on your player.

  12. As what others have stated.

SVCD specs do not allow AC-3 audio. Of course, you can mux whatever you want, OGG, AAC, and Excel spreadsheet, it just won't work on a stand-alone player.

If you look at some older threads, you will discover that this topic was heavy discussed a year or so ago (before DVD authoring and burning was affordable/available). NO ONE has ever made a SVCD with AC-3 that worked, and I seriously doubt that there is a stand-alone player in which it would work.

Multi-channel MPEG is allowed for in the SVCD specs. However, you will not only need a player that can output the multi-channel MPEG as a digital stream, but also a digital decoder that can decode it. Both are rare but they exist. Unless you are one of the extremely uncommon few, it isn't worth it as the multichannel MPEG will simply be decoded as stereo.

Your best bet is simple Dolby Surround encoded stereo.

If you want AC-3 audio, make a DVD or a DivX/XviD file.

    Regards.

  13. thanks for all your help.
i wonder to myself if a dvd that have codecs in it that can read divx and xvid can read an mpeg with ac3? probebly it can...(but then again if it reads xvid with ac3 it doesn`t matter if the dvd will read mpeg with ac3.)
