To some, you probably already know this and I have for some time too, but while going through random online searches, I found this and several other links regarding DVD vs VHS:
http://www.dvdadept.com/DVDvsVHS.asp
I also found several other links that also described that it cost 1/4 more to make a Retail VHS movie at the lower quality standard VS. a high quality DVD with plenty of extras. In fact the cost of a highest quality VHS was still slightly greater than the creation of a SuperBit DVD. So why the F**K is a Wal-Mart DVD usually $3-5 more expensive than the VHS?
As you can read in the link above, and many more by just doing a random search of 'DVD vs VHS', VHS has been around for about 20 years and is still widely used. VHS versions of fairly recently released movies are now being turned away by many Pawn shops because they have little or no resell value. People are no longer accepting a crap quality tape that wears down over time and is also clunky and bulky. However, DVDs are becoming more widely used and accepted, but the cost is not really dropping, too much. Many popular titles of movies on DVD are holding the same value when they were first released. A new VHS cassette of an older, but popular, title may only be worth $5-6 bucks. Again, check out Wal-Mart and even Target. DVD Players are now even getting cheaper than VHS players, but can still provide higher quality digital performance than a VCR.
Basically what this all boils down to is Supply & Demand. The cost for the loss in the VHS cassettes is easily made up in the sales of DVDs and then-some. All that extra money from the DVD's goes into the pockets of the DVD makers. So when you buy a movie on DVD, make sure you find it for the lowest damn price you can find anywhere, and for Pete's sake, don't buy the Full Screen Version of anything. It's just wrong.IMHO.
(My interpretation of Full Screen is anything that has been chopped at the sides, from it's original version, to fit a standard 4:3 television in full frame. If it was originally filmed in 1:33 aspect, I consider it Original Format and not Full Screen, because it has not been chopped.)
