Check out myDVDEdit, a new freeware visual IFO editing tool for MacOS X. You can get it off its (French) site here:
http://www.macetvideo.com/mydvdedit/mydvdedit.html
There is no English documentation at this time, but the app is in English, and it's interesting to just poke around. Who knows, maybe one of us can figure out how to do something useful, like disabling buttons for titles and tracks we've removed... I'll try to keep poking around, and will be sure to post if I make any headway.

Hate to reply to my own comment, but apparently, editing functionality isn't operational yet. I'll be keeping a close eye on that, as this looks to be a truly revolutionary piece of software on the Mac.

Wow, this looks like a GREAT app!
Quite mature too, lots of features...
I love how you can "disassemble" the commands and have a full view of all the registers etc in debug mode.
I just wish the Frenchies would stop publishing the docs in FRENCH, it sucks... But as far as I can see, it seems more like a viewer program than an editor. Is editing even planned?
But it's still cool, looking forward to the next update!

What does it do exactly?
Go off and rule the universe from beyond the grave. Or check into a psycho ward, whichever comes first, eh? -
For now, it only allows you to explore the way the DVD is set up. It's planned, however, to "make a ResEdit for DVDs", i.e. a visual IFO editor. Future versions are supposed to allow you to edit the commands, and hopefully do fun stuff like deactivate buttons and whatnot. I'll be closely watching this project, and will be sure to keep you guys updated on any progress. I've gone through its functions, and for now, it seems to only allow editing of region settings and UOPs. It looks like the interface is in place to edit the function of all the menus' buttons, and the commands associated with them. The interface is quite advanced, and is really the best in class, as far as I can see, once the command editing functions are operational.

Could I use that to change some region 2 DVD rips to region all? I just made a purchase on amazon.co.uk.
-
MTR should do the job just fione for those region 2s. The japanese dvds are region 2, and it has no problem making them reg 0.

Yeah, MTR is going to be my first line of defense. Region coding is a stupid, stupid idea.

I gotta say I really love the interface, the visual feedback is great. It's gonna be awesome once editing is implemented.

Or if you just like turning your customers into criminals. Thanks to region coding, more people are introduced to DVD ripping than would ever be if all DVDs could play all over the World. It's a losing battle, as the underground moves fast enough to make these kinds of controls meaningless. If I buy a DVD, I better be able to play it no matter where in the World I am currently. If I move between DVD regions, you better bet I'm not going to be re-purchasing my entire DVD collection, just so I can play them at a friend's house, or on my new DVD player. Fight the power!

Yes, as soon as MyDVDEdit's editing capabilities are working, tfdvdedit is dead. That app's interface is terrible, compared to myDVDEdit. Plus, Forrester seems like a conceited prick, calling himself the "King of DVD" or something stupid like that. Good riddance.

Try translating the page using Babelfish <http://world.altavista.com/>. Makes for some occasionally hilarious sentences, but gets you a little closer. -
New version 0.7 was just released, with the following changes:
• French localization
• Multiple windows, with the ability to have several DVDs open
• (Y, Cr, Cb) or RGB pallette, user-selectable
•*Several bugfixes
The developer says he's sorry, there's still no editing functions. He'll get to it as soon as he's done writing up the documentation.I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté." -

It's still a shame that most TVs in Europe will play NTSC content just fine, but many in the US, namely Sony TVs, refuse to play PAL. It would cost so little to add support for both formats. Oh well, if PAL matters for you, make your next TV set purchase something other than a Sony.

I think the PAL issue is player specific... I have other PAL discs that played fine on my tele from other settop DVD players... Oh well, I'm converting the thing to .dv now to burn an NTSC disc....
-
more and more US players are converting pal to ntsc now, and doing a really good job at it. you can also use remote codes to switch em to region free. toshiba and phillips have some good ones out for under $100 if interested.
saves having to convert everything yourself.pants on, pants off, pants the floor. -
Hi everyone.
Happy to see you like my work.
You right, you can't modify your DVD until now, but I'm working hard on the Command editor.
I hop myDVDEdit will able you edit commands in 2 or 3 weeks.
see you
Jerome. -
Woot, thanks for keeping us informed here. And thanks for all your work on that excellent app. The interface is truly excellent. Merci pour l'effort impressionant, compatriote!

The application is already in english. I'm sure with enough poking around, people will be able to make useful tutorials for MyDVDEdit here... I, for one, nominate someone other than myself for the task of translating that beast of a manual...
