  1. Hi:

I bought an external Lite on 8x DVD writer. The software is Power DVD that came with it. I also have Roxio Media Creator.

When I try to capture the DVD to copy to my hard drive it isn't recognized. (I put the DVD to be copied in my DVD ROM on my computer . It is not encrypted.) I put a blank DVD+R in my Liteon writer.

When I try to capture the contents of the DVD ROM, I cannot. Although I can play the DVD Rom on my computer, when I try to copy or capture the contents, I get an error message that says "video source not recognized".

Can someone help me out? I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong or do I need additional software such as DVD Shrink or something else?

I am really looking forward to backing up some DVDs. Please help. I'm stuck. I've done some research on these boards, but can't find an answer to this questions, which I assume is pretty basic.

I have a Dell with WindowsXP, 512 RAM, 120gb hard drive. 2.0 USB port, etc.

    Help.

    Thanks.

    Hello,

You can play it so you can rip it. Try out dvd decypter if it is already a dvd r disc. You only need dvdshrink to compress a commercial movie you intend to backup (that you own of course ).

  3. Hi:
Thanks. I will try dvd decrypter.

In the meantime, why would I keep getting the error message saying the video source is not recognized?

Is it the software? Why would that happen if I'm using the software that came with the dvd writer? Could it be a compatibility issue with my Dell computer? my wireless network? Other?

    Thanks so much.
