My LG GSA-4163B (firmware A105) does not recognize or detect a (standard/pressed) DVD-Video disc. I cannot even browse its contents.

I can read and write CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW with no problems at all. Actually, I have been using this drive to burn dvd's for two years. Now, for the first time I wanted to play a movie and I can't. My problem is playing back. I'm not trying to rip it. I can play back any other dvd burned with this drive. My OS is WinXP SP2 and I have Nero Showtime, although I also tried WinDVD to no avail. I also have VLC and it does not work.

Any ideas or suggestions would be very welcomed.

Edit: I forgot to mention that the drive region code matches the disc I'm trying to play.

Your LG cannot play *one* stamped DVD in particular,
or it does not play any stamped DVD?

I tested a couple that I had at hand and the behavior was the same.

Shut the system down , and disconnect the attached cable from both drive and motherboard , and reinsert firmly , but be carefully when reinserting into motherboard , and retest unit .

The only thing that can account for the problem is laser calibration is out ... nothing you can do about that except get a new unit .

    Check for firmware update .
