  1. I have been asked the following question -

"I am looking to get my Xbox chipped so I am able to play games from the US and other sources. I have heard that if you play on-line with a chipped Xbox, microsoft can disable your console. Is this true or just an urban myth?"

I say its rubbish, any definitive answers folks ?

Buddha says that, while he may show you the way, only you can truly save yourself, proving once and for all that he's a lazy, fat bastard.

There are 3 ways to play backups on an xbox

    1. Modchip
    2. Softmod (Software expliot hack) no chip needed
    3. TSOP Flash (bios flash) no chip needed

If you attempt to use xbox live with a modified console where your mod method is active you will not be able to use the $70 a year xbox live service again (unless you find an unbanned eeprom) The xbox will still work fine to play your games just not xboxlive

    1. Modchip can be disabled so you wont get banned
    2. Softmods can be installed and uninstalled in a few minutes so you uninstall to play live games and reinstall to play backups (exploitable game required aka mech assult, 007 Agent under fire, or splinter cell)
    3. TSOP flash is always on unless you have an early model so you can install a switch there are 6 version of the xbox 1.1-1.6 only 1.1-1.2 are switchable. If you go online with tsop mod on you will be banned. (you can also reflash with orginal bios also so you wont get banned just cant play backups if uninstalled)

There are at least 3-4 free services that will allow you to play originals or backups online xbonnect and xlink kai are 2 of them

With xboxlive you can only play originals online and you pay $70 a year

All the info you need can be found @ www.xbox-scene.com look in their tutorials and forums

If you need info for a good installer for one of these methods let me know

I modded both of my Xbox machnes with the xecutor 2.3b chip for $37.

Works great. I use linked games with XBConnect and it works quite well with a good broadband connection to the net.

If you need help installing it, let me know.

  4. yeah, xbconnect.com doesn't care if you have a mod.

Mod's with switches to turn themselves off are the way to do it too.

  5. Also replace with a 250G HDD!

Then U can load all your X-Box games into the HDD, and no need for back up the game DVDs' any more.

It's no myth, when you log on to MS live servers they do a verification check, if you are modded and your chip is enabled,or you have a "backed up" game in the drive,or have an unlocked hard drive, or are running a modified bios,or have disabled/overwritten the TSOP protection it will be detected, and you will receive a hardware modification error and are banned from using Live.
The good news is Microsoft only bans your eeprom, not your Live account, so it is easy enough to obtain an unbanned clean eeprom image, then flash it over your old one and restore your account.
The myth is people think MS is banning large hard drives when in actual fact the user was sloppy and went on live doing one of the things mentioned above.
All new mod chips can be disabled for Live, so can soft mods for that matter(no modchip all done by software),other mods have on/off switches, I have a Xenium which allows you to load different hacked bios or the original MS bios, which effectively disables the mod as it is using the MS factory settings.
Just shut up and listen dumbass
