What the difference between a normal DVD burner to a double layer burner?

I think you mean Dual Layer
A "normal" DVD burner can only burn on 4.7GB discs. DL discs have a capacity of 8.5GB so it means that you don't need to shrink or remove any material from DVD-9s when backing them up. Because it is still very very new technology for the consumer, I am led to believe that there are still a few issues with DL ATM.If in doubt, Google it.
