  1. So I encoded a video mpeg2 & loaded up tmpgenc dvd author version 1.5.19.59, followed the wizard, made my menu, everything looked good in the preview screen, encoded, it said it was bigger then 4.5gb, which was fine. Once it finished loaded it up into dvd shrink 3.1, got to a dvd-5 appropiate size, burned. Just put it in my dvd player & everything: the menus, video, etc where cropped side. Each side lost maybe .5"to1"

So my question is well what am I doing wrong, like is there an setting I'm missing or something. I could understand if the video was cropped before I encoded it but it looked fine before I loaded it into tmpgenc dvd author

Oh also, the menu's though cropped worked but the video loaded up before the menus is that another option <minor problem> compared to the 1st

    oh my system specs:
    athlon1600
    512mb 2700ddr
    2x40gb 7200 IDE Western Digital
    MSI KTV4
    Win2k w/ Latest Service Pack
    Ati radeon 9000 128mb

    PLEASE HELP!!!!!

YUP! Perfectly normal occurance. TVs normally crop off the edges of what youo see on the preview screen. You have to choose "edit Meny theme " and there you will see the "safe" area that literally shows the edges that the TV scree crops. I've made that same mistake myself. Give it a try. Just make sure everything sits inside tha safe area.

As far as i'm aware TMPGenc DVD Author does not change the video in any way, if it's DVD compliant it's ok. Was the original MPEG a capture or a converted AVI?

Edit. Is that right? I presumed the tv safe area was for the menu's only, why should you have to crop to satisfy TMPGenc DVD Author if it's a compliant MPEG? Ah well, you live and learn...

  4. huh...that's weak about the auto-cropping. You would think programmers would adjust for that. But anyway I loaded up tmpgenc dvd author & went to edit menu theme. But I don't see any sorta border or "safe area" is there a option I'm missing?

The actual safe area is dependent on your particular TV, but if you don't get any closer to the edge than 32 pixels, I think you'll be safe on any telly.
