  1. Hello All. I am having a really hard time with this SVCD. A friend sent it to my by snail mail on a cd, I copied the contents exactly to a folder on my computer and tried to reproduce the mpeg-2 file in WMP and it told me that I was missing the proper software to view this file. So I came here and searched the forums, and I found that I should download Stinky's MPEG-2 Codec. Well I did this and the file still doesnt work, I also downloaded a "test" SVCD file from this site, and it works, but MY file doesnt. The exact error message I get is: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The player may not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." I know that it is SVCD because the file structure is identical to what this site says is for SVCD besides the fact that this person told me it is a "standard svcd".

The exact file that I am trying to open has an .mpg extension.

I would really appreciate your help because this is a project that a friend of mine from Germany did and it would really be a pain to tell her that I couldnt open her video...

Thank you very much for any suggestions...

    Ted

Use PowerDVD or Media Player Classic (or VLC some would say). Rant: WMP is the worst waste of HDD space MS has ever devised.

  3. I tried it with PowerDVD but I think since it came with my computer it is some kind of limited version that only lets me play DVD's from the DVD drive cause it doesnt even have a file > open option anywhere... And when I right click on the MPEG2 file, and choose open with PowerDVD, nothing happens. When I do the same with Classic Media Player, I get an error that says that "no combination of filters could be found to stream the file" or something like that... any other suggestions?
