  1. Hi

After numerous problems with my PC which I finally traced to my motherboard it is time to rebuild it but I was wondering what is the best to get. Different friends recommend Abit (this is from the colleagues of my lodger who are field service engineers), ASUS & MSI which doesn’t help much as their opinions differ so much and I was wondering what the general opinion is.

I’ve been told Abit because they are very stable by one, MSI because Microsoft use them, etc, etc. I intend to use an AMD chip so that does narrow it down as I'm looking for socket A and IDE not SATA with onboard 5.1 sound and video USB 1 & 2, 4 expansion slots, DDR RAM, 64MB cache & Firewire would be nice but not a priority

  2. I have built quite a few machines now, and I haven't used anything but Asus. This is not to say other brands are bad, but Asus motherboards are rock solid.

ASUS motherboard come with plenty of utilities also. If you are a gamer look into a board with PCI-E slots, if you are keeping your processor make sure you get the same socket number.

Asus A7N8X is still a fantastic board for the money. I'm sure there are newer versions of it but that's always been one of my favorite single CPU boards.

  7. ASUS is top notch. Friend of mine has a local PC shop (builds clones) He does sell Intel, ASUS, MSI but he also sells FASCOMM. Good board and fairly inexpensive. I believe they OEM for Dell and some others.
