  1. I just bought one of these units and hooked it all up to the TV tonight. While I did not try recording yet, I did notice a few minor things that i'm confused about.

    1) I figured I would just be able to remove the VCR that was hooked up, hook up the DVD in the same fashion and everything would be fine. Well, I was not able to get the TV through the DVD player like the VCR as I could not find a "TV/VCR" type switch on the DVD. I hooked up the cables to the input of the DVD and the output of the tv then changed the tv to "Input 1" with the remote. Then it worked.

Is there, in fact, a "TV/VCR" type button anywhere on these recorders or do I have to hook this up as I have it now with those cables and using the input 1?

As for playback on this DVD. This unit is a DVD-R, DVD-RW recorder. Will I only be able to play back -R and -RW discs or will it also play +R and +RW discs?

I'm sure i'll have many more questions as I go along here. I would like to thank everyone in advance here who might help with these situations.

  2. I'm not sure I'm understanding this right. If you are trying to use the recorder through coax it will not work that way. You wouldn't want to use it that way anyway. You don't say what you are using as an input, but if you have coax connected into and out of the recorder then you should be able to watch without having the TV on line 1. Always hook anything you can using an s-video cable or RCA jacks if possible, coax is a last resort.
