  1. I've been coming to this site since it was vcdhelp, but just joined to start asking questions.

I am getting ready to transition to dvd-r and have been searching around for different kinds of info to ease the transition. Special thanks to lordsmurf !

Please bear in mind that this is my first experience with dvd-r media. I realize this could be a really dumb question, but with all the talk of counterfit disks its really bugging me.

I just got my first spindle of printable 8x Taiyo Yuden dvd-r from Supermediastore. The disks are actually sticky on the edge. Slightly noticeable on a single disk, but very noticeable on the full stack.

Is this normal for dvd-r media or Taiyo Yuden ???????

    Thanks in advance.

ps: Nero InfoTool says it is: TYG02

Dirty jokes aside, sticky discs can sometime be glue that slapped outside the platter. You typically only see that with cheapo discs. When you're buying from a reputable company, there's not much worry about fake media. Most of them learned a hard lesson with fake MXL media.

Thank you for the reply and info.

But, uh, i still don't know what to do (ok, i'm kinda slow). Should i try to get them replaced as factory defective, or should i go ahead and use them and not worry about future effects on archived files?

Since you have stated that you use TY for your personal archiving, i am curious what you would do?

    Thanks again.

Having not really dealt with that specific issue with TY myself, do what you want. If you think something is wrong, take them back for an exchange. If it's fine, keep them.
