try some mov converters, https://www.videohelp.com/tools?toolsearch=&s=&orderby=Name&convert=MOV+to+AVI&dvdautho...+or+List+tools
or tmpgenc with the mov plugin and then export to avi from file->output to video. -
Did none of those tools work?
-
You may get suggestions if you provided more information. There were plenty of applications for you in the link Baldrick provided. What went wrong? What errors did you recieve?
Cobra -
i don't actually get errors with some jst nothing happens and with the ones that do work i get any error saying that the file is in the wrong format
-
Can you tell us:
- What application you are trying to use
- What method you are trying to use
Cobra
EDIT - I just successfully encoded a .3GP file to AVI format using TMPGEnc and the .MOV plugin. When browsing for the source file, I selected file type "All Files" - it opened it and encoded it no problem.
Try doing it as Baldrick said, using TMPGEnc and the .MOV plugin. -

I jst recently downloaded the .MOV Plugin for TMPGEnc and extracted the file into the TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 folder in my program files is this correct? -
Download 3gptoavi3.zip from http://www.mitsoftware.com/akiles/ - I've used it successfully - on NT4! - and it's free.
Nothing if not difficult -
What type of phone are the clips from? Can you put a shorter one online somewhere so we can expperiment with it?
Nothing if not difficult -
its a nokia 6600 clip i don't think i can put them any where sadly

Download TMPGEnc here:
https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=1#comments
It will be in a .ZIP file. Extract the files to a folder on your desktop.
Next, download the .MOV plugin (QTReader.vfp) here:
http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/4942/svcd.html
Do what it says, and unzip the file into the same folder that TMPGEnc is in.
Drop your .3GP file onto the desktop. Next, launch TMPGEnc. Close the wizard, and open up your video file. Choose an output destination. Go to file and save it as an AVI. Job done. You need not install anything, it is all stand-alone.
If you still recieve the "unsupported" message, try what is suggested in this sticky about common TMPGEnc problems:
https://www.videohelp.com/tmpgenc#problems
You will have to put some effort in yourself. If you have a specific problem, post back with a detailed query. Check this post out:

i have already download both tmpgenc and the .mov plug-in and have followed the instructions given by cobra and i still get the same problem the error reads file c:/phone/..... cannot open or is unsupported
i have also tried the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader priorty setting shown here https://www.videohelp.com/tmpgenc#problems and i am still getting the same problem
have also tried using this page https://www.videohelp.com/play#identify to identify the codec reqiured but no luck again -
Could you try another QuickTime movie and see if you get the same error please?
I found a thread with aprticular relevance:
https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=237120&highlight=file+unsupported
Hope this helps,
Cobra -
ok have tried another .mov file and it work playback of the avi is a bit dodgy but thats not the worry at the mo
have tried the set given in the link cobra gave me still no luck
edit: not sure if this helps but when the file(s) is loaded it is opened using real player -
I wonder if installing QuickTime may help things.
Failing that, use VirtualDub to frameserve into TMPGEnc. I hope VirtualDub accepts .3GP - not sure about this. You should be able to find a guide on frameserving in VirtualDub's help, but here are a few helpful threads:

i already have quicktime installed tried re-installing aswell.
Sorry but no luck with VirtualDub, i am told cannot detect file type -
Ok, done a little more experimenting. Avidemux can read and convert the picture stream just fine. It will also export the audio apparently. I say apparently, because so far I've been unable to determine the audio format.
Nothing if not difficult -
It is AMR audio.
-
this is gonna sound stupid but having a bit of problem find the link to download Avidemux on the website given in the tool menu
-
Click on http://developer.berlios.de/project/showfiles.php?group_id=1402. The file you want is avidemux-2.0.28_win32.zip as you appear to be running windows.
