  1. I'm being punished for all my previous sins. I am slowly going insane due to lack of practical and explicit help.

My card is a Winfast A360TDH Geforce FX5700. I have the blue MyVivo cable that came with it. I don't think it came with any other cables. I have a JVC SVHS player that I want to connect so that I can capture the video.

I think I have the whole thing connected properly, but cannot find any guide that specifically shows me how to connect the video and the audio . Either it is easier than it looks, or I am dumber than I look, or I am missing a vital point in this whole connection business.

The 'not' very helpful guy who sold me the graphics card said that once it was installed (it's been up and running a few months now), the whole thing would recognise the vcr as a capture device.

Do I also have to have the VCR connected to a TV, or can I do this with just the player connected to the PC.

Once I get the hardware connected (I have tried this in the past) I try to open either WinFast PVR or Ulead video studio, and both say that I have no video capture device.

So as you can see, I'm really looking for some guide that shows explicit instructions on cabling, and what settings to have on the vcr etc. My second query is how to make sure the PC recognises it as a video capture device.

    Thanks in advance.

Not familiar with that particular card, but in general, the SVHS output from the VCR goes to the SVHS input of the video card. Probably no news there. The audio out of the VCR goes to the audio line in of your audio card. You probably need stereo RCA jacks to a 1/8" stereo plug to adapt. This is a common adapter.

You don't really need any connection to the TV unless your capture software doesn't have a preview window.

I don't think the VCR will be recognized as a 'video capture device' as that is what your video card is. I would go the the website of the capture card to see if they have what you need.

Generally if you have a video input, your software will see that and you will be able to capture.

Others may be familiar with this particular card and give you further advice.

  3. HI, thanks for the tip. Yes, the audio is working fine, and the cable is connected, but still I keep getting a message in WinFast PVR, Ulead and VirtualVCR telling me I have no capture device! Any tips on how to set this up would be greatly appreciated!

Have you installed the WDM drivers, they are seperate from the video drivers. They can be found on the installation disc under multimedia I think. I suggest downloading the latest ones which can be found here http://www.nvidia.com/object/wdm_winxp-2k-Me-98se_2.20
