  1. I'm trying to back up some cassette tapes that I've got, but when I hook up audio inputs only to the M10, nothing happens. The only way to get the audio inputs to work from the tape deck is to hook up some other video source to the video in. I noticed that if I hook up my cable box video to the "unused" video input that I've got my tape deck connected to, it works. I tried this on the F-1, L-1, and L-2 inputs with the same results on them all. I did notice that with the cable box hooked up, I could power it off and the audio from the tape deck still worked. The video in this case was pretty much black, though there are some noise type stuff too. This will probably work, but I haven't tried to record anything yet. I'm hoping to get a fair amount of audio on a dvd since the screen is dark.

    Anyone else noticed this?

I doubt it. This is a video unit, no audio features are mentioned. I'd be surprised if you got more than 2 hour of audio in 2 hour mode, etc.

  3. I was hoping to do something like this:

I guess I thought that the compression rate for a black screen would be much greater than normal, allowing the unit to fit more data on the disc.

Is that a special feature of the Pioneer unit?

If this audio is heading for CD's I would think you would want to set the recording for XP and in the setup specify PCM.

CD's are uncompressed audio so you wouldn't want to use AC3.

Someone sanity check me, but I think thats right.

Try it, but I'd think it was a special feature. I know it is for the LiteOn units, advertised as such.

    Never hurts to try! 8)
Use a CD-RW or DVD-RW, just in case.

  6. The JVC can be setup to record 1 hour of PCM audio in XP mode, you will have to have a video input to record unless it cancels the need for that in XP PCM mode, I haven't tried it.
