  1. Hi,

I have some DVD's that were made with a standalone DVD recorder. I don't know what brand, because I got those DVD-R's by (regular) mail.

Some of these DVD's are not recognized by any PC (they do not show the video_ts folder and VOB files). Also Windows XP give the errormessage that there's no DVD in the player. I tried several DVD drives in several PC's. The DVD plays fine on some 'normal' standalone players, but won't play on X-Box, Playstation2, or even my standalone Yamaha DVD Recorder.
It seems like anything is on the discs, except for the directory structure (TOC).

It's not possible to read the disc with TMPGENC DVD author or DVD Shrink. Also Nero Burning Rom does not recognize the disc.

Any ideas how to get this working on my PCs ?

    ggouweloos,

Check that the DVD-Rs from your recorder are "Finalised".
If they are not, then your PC won't be able to read them.

    Good luck,

    Moonstomp.

  3. That's what I thought. The guy said he finalized them, but I cannot confirm this. But when a disc is not finalized Nero should still be able to tell something about the disc?

BTW: My goal is not to play the disc on the PC, I want to extract the data to my HD (without re-capturing), so I can edit the video/audio. I will burn it again afterwards.

I've had a support call on this before. Some DVD Recorders just cannot seem to read in PCs. I worked with a person for 2 hours once and it just wouldn't work.

I got 20 DVD's, all the same brand, all burnt with the same DVD recorder, 12 do work on all my PC's, 8 do not work.
Only thing I notice is that those 8 CD's only have one program (track) on them.

Copy the files from the disk to your hard drive, so you have them as backup, just use windows explorer, then try finalising them on your dvd recorder, or see if a friend has the same recorder they were made on or talk nicely to your local store and get them to use a machine on display.

As I wrote in the first post: It is impossible to copy the files to the HD, because those 8 discs are not recognized. There will not be any video_ts directory showing up. That's the actual problem.

Ok so they play on some stand alone dvd players, hitch one up to your dvd recorder and re-record them?

Even get one froma store and take it back saying you don't like it?
