Ok.. i used DVD Decrypter to import a dvd to my laptop (just 1 as a test) i thought it had worked fine until the files were in over 40 seperate icons..bad news.. basically all it had done was copy the video file from the dvd into my hard drive.... i could have done that without a program.... annoying but i thought i still might be able to join them together... except that when i opened 1 of them to check it was actuall there it gave me the title screen and then my computer crackled.... a lot so i turned the sound off.... but it wasnt an audio fault so i shut the program (by the way it was PowerDVD)
What have i done wrong?? Any help would really be appreciated!!
thanks, Ollie

Importing and ripping are two different things ... and welcome .
If it was a home created dvd , then dvddecrypter will do all you need , same as for dvdshrink , both nolonger under development .
If it was commercial created dvd , it wont , not without some help using pgcedit and the psl2 plugin .
In this case , theres a free version of dvdfab that will do the job .
----
Audio might be fixed if you install ac3 filters ... beyond that , we would need more info as to what is actually happening .
----
You mean the audio_ts folder ... yes , nothing ever dose go here , its empty , everything is stored in the video_ts folder .
There are some exceptions , where pc files , and others are included ... ever see a thing pop up called interactive player ... yes ... well dont install it ever ... piece of crap .
----
So you added the entire lot into player , and cant sellect things in menu clip when it shows up .
That suggests you have the vobs only and missing bup's and ifo's which are required .
Well , if you cant repeat the rip from the original disc , you have a bit of work ahead of you to make it play as per normal .
----
That depends if you want to re-establish the menu structure , which is not something for newbies , unless one is willing to learn and not throw the towel in halfway .
Or stripping the main titles video and audio stream , then simply reauthoring , and burning to disc will be the faster route
You'll find most of this info in the guides section . -
ok step by step this is what i actuall did:
Opened DVDDecrypter
Let it gather all the files from my DVD
Clicked the start button
Waited for it to finish
Opened the folder they were in
Observed that some seemed to be unrecognised files
Closed the file
Opened PowerDVD
Clicked Menu
Opened Folder (in menu) with the files in
Selected them all
Clicked Save list
Waited for it to save
Clicked Play
Title screen came up
Tried to click on an option
Wouldnt work
Should have been a swirling pattern in the backgroun....nope
Audio crackling and spitting.... i wislh i could think of a technical name.... it isnt really any audio fault like feedback or anything because if i mute the speaker it stops... meaning that it is how PowerDVD is interpreting the sound.
My thoughts are my soundcard is not to good maybe
but then the disc works fine when its played on my computer straight from the disc.
oh and it is a commercial DVD -
Ok , you ran in a circle ... again ... remember what I mentioned about certain tools before .
Go grab dvdfab decrypter from http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm , and use it to rip the dvd to hard drive , and forget using plain old dvddecrypter .
Dvdfab decrypter :
DVDFab HD Decrypter is a simple version of DVDFab Platinum. It copies entire DVD movie to hard disk, and removes all the protections (CSS, RC, RCE, APS, UOPs and Sony ARccOS) while copying. It also comes with full HD-DVD and Blu-Ray support (Removes AACS).
----
Dvddecrypter in itself is nolonger updated and dosent handle newer dvd titles that use updated methods of protecting the contents , unless one use's pgcedit with the psl2 plugin .
This is why you are having issues with the playback of the title once its on your hard drive from the dvd .
----
While most dvd play back programs appear to perform all the required functions in order to play dvd's , there are times where its the reverse ... due to incompatabilities with other programs already installed , ms updates causing other issues ... and on an on it gose .
The first rule of thumb here is to always check for available updates for the product of choice should issues appear ... esspecially seeings how you have some audio issue ... update the drivers for the sound device used would be the first place to start .
Yes ... sure ... turning the audio off fix's it ... true ... but then you cant hear it ... pointless .
----
First suggestion : If dvd disc is not available
Some playback products have issues with content not arranged correctly when using "play from folder" sellection .
Create a folder call "myvid" ... or what ever you like on hard drive .
Place folders , audio_ts and video_ts inside this new folder .
Place all the dvd content into video_ts folder .
And go from there .
You only need now , point "play from folder" at myvid , or what ever you called the top folder containing audio_ts and video_ts folders , and away it gose .
----
Many play back programs have fun issues when you simply add all the vobs to a "play list" ... normally this dosent work at all ... well , not like the dvd would anyway , which is what you are experiencing at the moment .
So try "first suggestion" point before anything else ... may be all you need to do ... but not guaranteed .
