I don't know if it was posted, but 30 disks for $199 seems a good price

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see how paying nearly $7 for a dual layer disk is a good deal. Hmmm...let's see...I can buy a new dual-layer burner (and chuck my nearly new 8X single layer), pay $7 or more for a disk and burn 8+ gigs on a single disk. And if there is a surge, a power failure or I get hit with a temporary case of dumb...I can have a $7 coaster and try again....Good Deal! OR...I can record the same 8+ gigs on two Riteks for about a buck...and have to go to the massive amount of trouble that changing a disk involves.

Ok...enough sarcasm...I just don't see the expense as justifiable. Disk will have to get down to under a buck to make it worth messing with dual-layer. Just my $0.02

Sounds like a lot less than 2 cents to me.
The guy was just trying to help out the few people who have dual layer burners - not the one's who just bought a single layer burner!

Considering dual layer discs were more than $20 less than two months ago, thats good progress.

    Just my 2 cents.

I have to agree with Halm. However, it is nice to see the price dropping so quickly.

Couple more months and they may be worth buying.

  5. I promised myself I would upgrade to a DL burner once the discs cost less than $5 each. Looks like I may be buying one soon if the prices keep going down...but I dont look forward to buying them in $200 increments.

You hit the nail on the head. Most people aren't any more willing to pay $7 for a dual layer disc than they are are $20, but it is progress.

It's a good sign that we are a little bit closer to these things being reasonably priced. Definitely encouraging.

  7. It's a better price but looking at their Verb medias on that page they don't say Verbatim on the top of the disk & I would think they would since that is a major Manf?

The bulk Verbatim media isn't branded; it's either shiny silver topped or white printable.

I remember paying $6 a pop for MCC and PVC media 2x SL. I'd do it for $6 each, no problem. But not in bulk. Maybe a handful at a time.

Remember, some of us make our own content. I'd rather have 8GB than 4GB of space. More elbow room.

  10. Once they reach about a buck apiece I'll stock up. I can wait...

  11. Frankly, how can Verbs go from $15 to $6, when the cheapo media is still around $9 a disk?

  12. i'l be waiting until dual layer disks drop to the same price or less than 2 single layer disks

it is nice to see the price dropping rapidly

  13. Naw, the price is going to be the same for new ones because the speed is going to get faster. Who's going to want 2.4x media when there is 4x media?

    1) people who has only a 2.4x DL burner
    2) people who think the 4x DL media is ridicoulously expensive for the speed gained

    Agreed....

Has anyone had any experience with the playback compatability with DL media?

Remember though...you said you are waiting for the Pioneer 109D so what are you going to do with all that DL media?

By the way I have recently bought an NEC 3500AG and it burns the pants off anything I ever burned with my 107D, including my S03s. Even the newer ones that were worse than the older ones are in the teens (PI) on the NEC.
Still a few bugs in the system...

    I meant "DL" in general.
You can bet I'm waiting for the 109.
    Or whatever has DVD-R DL.
    At $6 a pop, for 2x or 4x DL, I'm game.
