  1. hey guys.. this seems to be a stupid question but what ist the filesize of one mpeg that fits on one cdr (80 min.) when i want to create a VCD?

i think its about 800 mb (ok... i used mpegs of 790 mb for SVCD and it worked), right?

a VCD, as well as a SVCD, is burned in mode2 / XA so that a mpeg1 file of 790 mb also should fit, right?

but my problem is: i did a mpg for a VCD with TMPEGEnc Plus with this configuration:

    - audio bitrate: 112 kbps
    - video bitrate: 1162 kbps

the movie is about 1:25:03 an i've calculated the bitrates with a calculator so they should fit my cdr.

I encoded the movie in tmpeg as a program stream for VCD.

Then i wondered for the first time: although i used the bitrates told by the calculator, my mpg was about 850. so i demuxed and muxed it again as mpeg-1 system (automatic) -> the result was a mpeg-1 program stream of 788 mb filesize.

but then i had to wonder again: nero 6 as well as blindwrite (authored with vcdeasy) tell me that the movie is too large for my 80 min cdr.

do you have any idea about that?

    thnx chris

You are correct. An 800Mb VideoCD project should fit on an 80-minute CD-R. VCDEasy should be able to burn the disc directly without any problems.

However, your configuration is not VideoCD 1.1 or 2.0 complaint.

VideoCD specifications call for a video rate of 1150 kbps CBR and an audio rate of 224 kbps MPEG-1 layer 2. Both of your streams are out of spec, and this is technically an XVCD.

Should it make any difference? I wouldn't think so.

    Can VCDEasy burn the project?

  3. hi

thank you for your answer. it's a pity but vcdeasy also can't burn it. when vcdeasy creates the image this image hast about 404000 sectors which are 44000 too much.

wodering about that i decided to extract the mpg stream from the image. and the mpg within the image (extracted with vcd and daemon tools) was around 890 mb.

so it seems to me that vcdeasy added abou 100 mb to my mpg.
in the protocol made by vcdeasy i read something similar like this: padding mpg on the fly - hope that's OK for you

might it be that, for reason however, vcdeasy adds any data to fit the mpg a certain standard?

    greetings

  4. hi dudes

i played a little bit around and found the solution for my problem:

the firts time i built the program stream as "MPEG-1 VCD" with tmpg. The result was a 850 mb mpg -> 85 min X 10 mb per minute -> this is the value for standard vcd.

the second time i muxed video and audio data as "MPEG-1 System (automatic)". However, the mpg was 788mb but it still did not fit on one cdr, during making the image (bin/due) it was padded.

now i muxed the video and audio as "MPEG-1 VCD (non-standard)" and... it works. in nero and in vcdeasy. and in vcdeasy's protocol there is no line like about "padding" so no data will be added to the mpg....

    sometimes solutions are so easy....

hope this will help anybody else and thank you for help.
