  1. please bear with me. if i sound stupid...it's cause i am! i have home movies that i put on dvd. now i want to take little bits of some and make a best of dvd. i've tried ripping with tmpeng or whatever its called. i get the mpg file. then i want to open the file with pin stud 8. when i do this it can't open the audio. says it might be used by some subsystem? also, do i have to convert the whole big file or is there a way to covert just small parts. i've tried looking in the guides but i'm just not getting it. i just don't have time to read every guide. i'm losing my mind and really need the help and i know this is the place to get it. thanks!

  2. what process did you use to put your home movies on the DVDs?

Also, did you check out tmpgenc dvd author? I don't have it, but I believe it can use a DVD structure as input and help re-author it (not sure if you can combine from multiple DVD's but it would be worth looking into).

  3. To get to the point of multiple dvd's you can use DVD shrink reauthor mode
then choose main movie only. When you right click on the main movie
you have chosen, you can choose set start/end frames to save
only what you want. Repeat as necessary, there are other, probably better
ways, but this may be an easy start to wrap your head around. Take it slow
and you will soon get a handle on it. One step at a time.

  4. I captured from analog camcorder and burned with pinnacle 8. i tried tmpgenc dvd author and thats how i got it to mpg. but when i open pinnacle again to edit, there is no sound. thats all i want to do is instead of recapturing from the camcorder i want to capture from the dvd's then re-edit and burn back to dvd.
