Hello everyone-I had some problems with Sony DVD+RW discs(DPW47L2) that I purchase at local retail stores. Discs written at 2.4X on either my NEC 2500A or Sony DRU500a read fine on either drive, discs written at 4X on the NEC have problems and can not be read by the NEC 2500A drive that produced them or the Sony DRU500a. The Sony DRU500a will write at 4X to Ritek DVD-R, but not to the Sony DVD+RW. The Sony DVD+RW discs are rated 1X-4X.

I too have a DRU-500a. I might be wrong but I was under the impression that 2.4x was tops for DVD+RW.

rkr1958-You're probably right. After a firmware upgrade on the old 500a and a couple of 4X Ritek DVD-R burns, I may have been a little optimistic with the Sony 1X-4X DVD+RWs. They are used for backing up my files. Always would prefer to get done quicker.

Yes- you're wrong (or perhaps just a few months out of date).

I've been using 4X +RW for about 6 months. I have 4 Sony and 2 (?Ritek I think) +RWs. They write at 4X and I've used them for DVDs which play fine on both my standalones. I also use them for data backup and again they write at 4X and haven't had any problems reading them later.
