  1. Hi

I do video editing in Premiere Pro and currently with my p2.4Ghz system, if I do complex effects on my video, my pc sometimes has trouble previewing it fluidly.

Now I am looking to either:
    A) Purchase a new dual XEON system
    B) Purchase a Canopus DV Storm 2Pro card and use it on my current (P2.4GHz) system

Price wise they will end up to be the same cost, the only thing is I do not have the funds to get both the above so I must decide on one, but never having used a canopus DV storm before, I do not know of it's potential.

My question is, which will give me the better better previewing/reviewing performance, the beefed up system or my slower system with the canopus ?

Get the DV Storm. While more CPU power will make PPro run better, there are several very real benefits that the DV Storm real-time card will give you that pure CPU power can't:

    1) Real-Time transitions & effects. Not preview qulaity here, but full DV quality. Analog or DV out.

    2) real-time titling and graphic overlay

    3) Real-time color correction. fix up and improve the video quality.

    4) real-time mpeg2 export for dvd authroing.

Another good real-time card to consider is the Matrox RTX100 http://www.videoguys.com/rtx100.html

  4. Hi

Which one will allow me to view my timeline without lag due to my effects (in premiere itself) and without having to render it to a movie file first.

I called Canpous up and the sales guy kept saying that it only allows real time output IF you use canpous' own effects in premiere, and when I asked if I could mix Canopus' with Adobe's, he was against that big time.

Also, which one will allow me to work on more video layers in premiere? Sometimes I work on 4-5 video layers all in the one scene, will either card be able to preview that in premiere AND output that to a file?
