Has anyone tried to print on silver matte (prodisc)?
I have a whole bunch of the silver matte (~700) and wondering if I should buy the R300 since it receives so many compliments and is on sale ( for less than r200 in the local area)
thanks a lot.

Not trying to sound like an ass or anything, but are these inkjet printable disks? Just because they are a matte surface, doesn't mean you can print on them.
Having said that, no I haven't used the silver topped printable disks. I have always used the white topped disks in my R300. The disks look great. I primarily use the prodisc s03 dvd-r for my disks. Can print almost all the way to the hub with these ones.
If you go into a Best Buy or Compusa, they sometimes have a display up of the silver topped diskd next to the R300. For some reason, Epson send s silver topped disks out to their displays. I haven't cared too much for the quality of the disk that they have on display.
If you can get the R300 for less than the 200, then that's a great price. You get the same print engine, plus the card reader as well on the 300. I've had my 300 for almost 9 months now and love it.

Thanks, that's why I was asking. They said that these are silver matte. But I don't know if I can print on them or not. Therefore, i was asking if anyone have any experience with these.

If it does not say inkjet printable, then they will not work on your R300.....unless of course you slap a paper label on them.

ah shux, and I was thinking I can get these for really low (~80 bucks after rebates and stuff)

thanks, but I still have ~700 of them silver matte tops left. What's the diff between the printable and not? My silver matte's surface is not that smooth like shiny tops (where the inks just washed right off) so I figure the ink would dry up.

The inkjet printable ones do not have a finish I would describe as typical of the matte finish. The ones I've got have more of a thin "powder coat" on them and don't look quite like any other matte disc I've ever seen.
I use them occasionally on my R200, and they work really well with lighter colours where you end up with a sort of "holographic" appearance. Solid areas of darker colours or blacks are not so good, however. You don't get quite the definition as you do on white topped inkjet printables, where the surface is usually more smooth and uniform. -

The difference is inkjet printable disks are designed to be printed on. They have a surface that absorbs the ink. The first inkjet printable I used was a generic, and I was really disappointed by the picture quality. Then I switched to using Ritek G04 inkjet printables and then on to using TY ink jets. The picture quality for both the Ritek G04 and TY's turned out really great, better than I expected. The quality of the inkjet disk makes a huge difference in how good the picture looks printed on the disk.

Thanks everyone, especially tearren for sharing the experience. I guess I'll stick around with my 700 set of labels and dvd-r until I ran out of them. By then, they prolly have newer kinds and cheaper too.

I wouldn't use them, I've never heard of them.
Here are the ones I use and they are about $50 cheaper per 100

I'd second redfive19's comment. I've been using prodisc white inkjet printables. For me they burn great and haven't had a coaster yet. Plus the full face (almost) printable surface makes these look great.
