I'm looking to duplicate this effect in Final Cut Express, but I've been having some trouble. I was able to get excellent results in vegas, but I really need to do it now in Final Cut. So if anybody has any suggestions, I'd be very greatful. Thanks!

Difference matte is the cheater chroma key (using only luma) but usually needs to be shot with this in mind (e.g. sub blacks or making sure foreground is always different luma vs backgrond). Final Cut Express is feature a reduced FCP. Maybe the difference matte was one of the features they reduced. Are you familiar with full FCP?
