  1. I want to buy a multisystem VCR.

Does anyone have any recommendations on a model they're happy with?
(And where I can get one?).

See some Toshibas on ebay.....notice alot of these don't offer stereo playback (need that).

    Toshiba V-E60?

Like to stay at around 150 bucks or less if I can.

    THANKS for any response.

  2. I work on VCRs, Toshiba is about the cheapest piece of junk on the market, right down with Funai in my book. If it's an older Toshiba it might be alright, I still don't like them myself, a newer one staw far away.

I've had trouble with the Samsung 5000W
I've been looking at the Toshiba 6-head and JVC 6-head PAL units.

  4. I agree....I've worked on Toshiba myself and it tops my crap list.

Problem is I don't see much too choose from on these multi players.

    I had another question...

Do some of these multiplayers actually have PAL to NTSC output conversion on them?

Maybe I should just get a PAL vcr off ebay uk and adapt the 220.

  6. I don't know exactly what's out there these days since I've never been in the market for a multi VCR, but I would definitely go JVC over Toshiba. Besides an ultra cheap mechanical assembly, Toshiba also has unreliable circuitry, about the only thing worse is Samsung.

What about all those high-rated Toshiba 6-head units from the USA in the 90s? Do these PAL units not mock that same quality/setup? I'm not a fan of low-end JVC equipment (only the good stuff), so I'm a bit wary to jump on the cheapo JVC bandwagon again. Any reason you'd go JVC first, in this case?

  8. If you have money go for the Panasonic. For the last 15 years I have used two multysistem Panasonics AG-W1-P. They are still going strong! The beauty of these machines is that you can use them as multysistem players, mutysistem recorders and standard conversion machines. Even if the mechanical part of this product (player/recorder) is damaged beyond resonable repair cost you can still use it as a standalone standard conversion unit conected between PAL and NTSC VCR's. The quality of this multysistem VCR(today Panasonic must have a new improved model) is way better than any model from AIWA and SAMSUNG.

  9. 90s VCRs and 2000 VCRs are a whole different ballgame, VCRs are much cheaper quality now than they were then. As far as mechanical assemblies you can pay whatever you want for a JVC, you still get the same mechanical assembly. The circuitry may get better but the mechanical assembly stays the same. Some of the overseas models used to use slightly better mechanical assemblies back 10-15 years ago, don't know if that's still the case now, I doubt it. The Toshiba VCRs from the 90s look nothing like the Toshibas now. The Toshiba VCRs now use the cheapest assembly on the market in my book. The tape guide plastic is so cheap it melts just from loading the guides back and forth. There are no pins for locking the guides into place, just indentations in the metal base. Since the guides locking into exact position each time is one of the most important things in a VCR this is totally unacceptable, even Funai isn't so cheap that they don't use lock pins.
