(if this is considered a religious topic, please delete, and punish me appropriately...)

Just wondering...did anyone buy/rent "The Passion of the Christ" today?

I only ask as I never saw the original theatrical release...and wondered if it lived up to "all" that it was supposed to be...

(I realize that there are many posts here about this movie...just wondering about the "buying/renting" of it...)

I want to rent it this weekend, and see for myself...

I just bought it for my parents. They're devout Catholics that didn't get a chance to see it in the theater.
    His name was MackemX

What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend?

  3. I saw it in the theater. Particularly moving film if you are a believer, and certainly a unique and powerful production either way. IMHO

We watched it tonight. The first time we've seen it.

Brutal. Thought-provoking. The aramaic dialog was a nice touch too. Subtitles didn't ruin it like some.

Awesome movie and one I'll be seeing many times more.

  5. I don't wanna say that it wasn't interesting, but I hoped for a little more dialogue. Definitely worth watching, but I think for me its not a movie I would watch over and over again...

  6. Very, very tough to watch. I wonder what's next from Mel Gibson -- the last stand of Daniel Boone, Or the torture of Davy Crockett

It definitely wasn't a feel-good movie, but I don't think it was intended as such. Passion had the same on-screen power that Braveheart did ...my all-time favorite, by the way.

Agreed... I guess I should have added smiley face but I couldn't .... The wife and I watch this not to long ago and had to fast forward thru serveral minutes of footage... Too disturbing for us. I agree with BraveHeart... great movie... one of my top ten.

Saw a commercial yesterday...a movie called paparazzi(I think).

Back to the topic...I thought it was powerful. Very hard to watch and even harder to get off your mind. Worth the rental.

I was going to rent The Passion yesterday, but my 1st choice video store only had fullscreen (yuck!). By the time I made it to my 2nd choice they were all out of both. Looks like I'll have to wait for the 2nd round.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

Mel is doing a new Mad Max movie.

When I worked on a movie set with Mel, he wasn't that well-known then.
He easily walked passed a mob of people watching the set without being noticed.
I almost got mobbed 'cause they thought I was someone famous (and I'm far from it)
Wish I worked with him after he became a billionare - maybe I'd stand a chance in his will somewhere 8)

Cap, I find it interesting that every time you say how much you like a movie or show, it often has French actors or reference in it
Cap must really be a closet French fan - all his money is going to the French

    Vive la France!

Braveheart star, Sophie Marceau - good choice 8)

Quest for Fire - Canadian/French production...from a French novel and directed by French director, Jean-Jacques Annaud.

    Friends - Matt LeBlanc/ Joey (he's French)

Monster - Charlize Theron (her dad is French...she grew up in South Africa but moved to Paris to become a model...then became an Actress)

Star Trek - quite a few French people involved in that.

'K...The Passion is made up mostly with Italians, but most of the lead actors have been in a number of French films.

There's no escaping it, I tell ya :P

Yes, we DO like the French - Lady Liberty is there to remind you of that

  13. I prolly wont see it. I don't like that much brutality and I already know the history so I'm not really missing anything

Me not being religious, it was just an okay film. Whether you want to believe that Jesus really went through that much torture or not is up to you. (I'll stop there as that is getting into a religious debate).

Strictly movie speaking, worth the rental. Not really as moving as I'd of hoped, actually. I did not really feel any emotional tug at my heart. Am I heartless? No, I cried at Bambi. But this just didn't make me feel that way. I dunno... whatever.

No, I don't hold someone's surname against them. I don't have an issue with any actors of French extraction. That would be bigotry.

I have an issue with France, and many French residents, particularly Parisians. They're obnoxious to American tourists and waiters often piss in their drinks, cuss them out to their face in French, knowing they don't speak the language ...laughing right at them, and demand that all freight coming into France have French on the box, or it'll be turned away.

My boss bicycled all over France after he finished his postgrad work. He liked the French rural folks, but said the Parisians were complete douche-bags.

And the fact that Capmaster is 1/2 French-Canadian, and that my dad learned French before English, and even had a French first name - Henault - on his birth certificate but later changed it, should give me a certain tolerance for my "cousins". But it works the opposite way. I'm ashamed of my heritage (at least the French part, not the Canadian part) and never brag about it. I point out that I'm also German, Irish and Finnish. Much more noble people, IMHO

It's their arrogance. That's not even getting into the politics ..which is why we only discuss it at politick.org

Cap, I was just razzing ya - no offense on my part 8)

I'm now seeing the picture more clearer...knew there had to be more reason behind your open love for the French

It's cool, and you don't have to be ashamed

Sorry to hear the stuff you been through though.

I come from a Heinz 57 heritage myself (no French in me though) -
German, Italian, Irish and English - howzat for a mix

    Anyway...I've visited politick.org a couple times - it's just I don't think I have much to offer there.
    It's all Greek to me

Way back, when I was in 2nd grade...I had a crush on one of my classmates. I very innocently asked this girl who her parents were voting for (since it was an election year and my uncle was involved in a political campaign...and I was seeing all the refernce around me)
I was sincerely only trying to make conversation - and had no real interest in what her parents politics were. I was a kid...politics were so over my head I couldn't even put it into words how out of the know I was about the topic.

But my mean teacher overheard me and let me have it - pounding into my head that it's a very personal question and you do not
    ask anyone that.

You could say it had a very traumatic impact on me.
I was very hurt by the experience and you could say it left a scar on me - what they call an inner scar.

I had no clue what politics were but knew it was something bad - and I wanted no part of it from that point on

I try to avoid politics as much as possible.
My opinion on anything political isn't going to make a change in anything...so it's not my place.

I'll stick to something safer like movies or music

Oh no, don't worry. None taken. I hadn't even seen that connection with the French actors. It's just every once in a while I have to cleanse my soul by getting out thet disclaimer "I may be part French by blood ...but I ain't French.n fact ....."

    Thanks dad
