All I want to do is take a 2 hour DV movie that I've already captured to avi, and split it up into scenes for menu creation. Is it better to do this in .avi format or can I do it in m2v? Also, what program is good for doing this, I have TMPGenc DVD author, DVD Lab (hard to get used to), and Ulead videostudio. Thank you.

I think TMPEG DVD Author will not accept an AVI file. I personally use Ulead VideoStudio 8 to do exactly what you want to do.

I just checked and TMPGnc will accept AVI files.
Sorry for the confusion!

Tmpgenc 2.5 encoder will accept avi files, tmpgenc dvd author doesn`t accept avi at all, only dvd compliant mpg,mpv,m2v,m1v and vobs.Use tmpgenc dvd author to edit and author the m2v that tmpgenc encoder produces.
I think,therefore i am a hamster.
