  1. Hi all. Just coming off a brainbusting straight 2 weeks of 16-18hr work days. Since the project is done, I thought I'd ride around this morning and browse some local stores for decent DVD media deals. Yes, this is relaxing for me (I'm a dork). My new DVR-108 should be here on Tuesday so I wanted to get a few kinds of media to try it out. Unless otherwise stated, these apply to -Rs (I'm firmly in that camp).

    1st Stop: Office Depot

Holy crap! Not even a MIR price, I'm there. That's a better price than I can source MCC 4x online at. I ask a stock dude for the nearest sidecap-runneth-over, and he informs me that "no stores ever received them". Nice, no bait-and-switch there. They are substituting Verbatim 25pks of DVD+Rs but the store had no dashes in stock. The dash sub was Office Depot brand, to which I replied "fat chance". Since they were subing a "like" product, no rainchecks. Bastards. I decided not to bitch them out since they were all very nice and apologetic. I'll send my g/f over there to give 'em hell tomorrow.

    2nd Stop: Walmart

A lot of you probably know that they've reduced the "every day" price of Maxell DVD-R 15pks to $18.83 a few weeks ago. This is great Made in Japan MXLRG02 product at an awesome price being a retail, non-sale item. I picked up a spindle to test in my new writer.

    3rd Stop: Staples

Usually have something good. A few weeks ago Sony 4x DVD-R25pks were $20/each. Burned well in my 106D. This week they are offering 25pks TDK DVD+R 4x or DVD-R 2x at $19.94 each. Plenty of stock, but I passed due to bad experiences with TDK 2x. They also had crappy HP 50x CDRs at $7.94 each (no MIR), if that's your bag.

    4th Stop: Circuit City
Turning into MIR whores, bigtime. Only had the nifty Verbatim DVD-R/+R Digital Movie 25pks on sale at $20 after $10 MIR. Pass, since it's just good-ole MCC with a cool label. Plus, I'll probably never see the $10 back.

    Best Buy: Dunno
Won't buy a damn thing from that store on principal. Rather pay full retail. MIR ********.

Anyway, that's a breakdown as I see it thus far. If you know of a chain having a sale on 4x or higher DVD-Rs this week please feel free to share.

I only know of the 25 pack spindles from COSTCO are media code TTG01. I've used 75 of them so far and they're good discs.
