i am a real newbie to making DVDs :roll
i have a 1 gig athon 512 MB RAM WIN me computer witha botu 10 gig free on the hard drive ( 40gb total)
i have a sony external USB DRX- 510UL DVD 4X dvd+/-RW burner for my pc
i have a bunch of DVD+R's and a few DVD+rws
i am trying to transfer all my vhs tapes to dvd format but i discovered that the most u can fit it only 2-4 hrs MAX on a 4.7 gig
i know u can store more on certain DVD- RAM but they are like over 15 bucks a pop now! which isnt cost effective. i could go buy the original movies for that price, and i dont think my DVD burner i just bought will copy data to them( expecially the 8GB DVD-RAMs
i have heard u can put at least 6 hours or so of video /audio onto a DVD in VCD format or DVD-VCD i think
i have a video capture device for pc to transfer all my vhs tapes to my computer in a MPEG 1 or 2 format. i know how to do that already
but putting them onto a dvd in vcd format is what has excaped me.
i want be able to play it in a standard new player that can dvd play in my computer, and a standard new DVD player that can read VCDs,SVCDs, DVD+/-RW( i have a KOSS KD-305 player now that can do this)
i heard u can do most of the work with a program svcd2dvd ,but when i went to the website and dled the trial it already expired
can someone explain to me EXACTLY how do take a mpeg file and put it onto a DVD in vcd format and can play in a dvd player i mentioned above
( keep in mind i am a newbie and may not understand some terminology)
is there a way to use any type of freeware available to do all this?
Is there ANY product available for free or not that can do it all in 1 shot instead of using half a dozen programs to convert, author, demultiplex. etc? and have the audio be in sync and everything?( i would definitly prefer free over not) i have never dvd authored before and ive tried it and it hasnt worked already wasted a few blank DVDS. its very hard to understand
the problem is i have already read the how to guides on this website regarding that but either most the how to guides apply to software that doesnt exist anymore ( older versions) and the guides cant explain how to the new ones work. its all very confusing ,
the reason i want to put it in vcd format is becuase all my tapes are 6-8 hours FULL of movies tv shows, etc and it would be actually impractical to put them onto a 4.7 gb DVD+R at 2 hours at a time, not that i would mind viewing the clear picture in dvd format but lack of space makes it too impractical for me and since the vhs tapes are already less than dvd quality why bother only putting that on a dvd at 2 hours at a time?
im trying to conserve space in house i dont want to end up with back up 100 vhs tape onto 300 dvds! with the dvds+rs at a few bucks a pop
if anyone can please help, and explain to me how i can do this in LAYMAN terms with currently programs availiable in the easiest, fastest and cheapest way i would greatly appreciate it. thanks
