    Hello,

Well the Olympics are finally over. I'm glad nothing terrible happened (other than some boring sports nobody watched!). But now we can wait for the next winter olympics when Hockey comes back!!! Can't wait for that!

  5. Marathon was awesome yesterday... What were they saying on the news... a Drunk Irish Priest was the person pushing the Italian (or was it someone else) into the crowd in the last 15 minutes of the race.

    Wild stuff

There were only like five channels showing coverage. And only about two at the most simultaneous.

I watched select events - soccer (football), a lot of the track and field events, swimming events, and the ever-controversial gymnastics. I did get to see some volleyball and handball as well.

With the gymnastics, I can never get to excited about the scores, as they are too subjective... I enjoy watching the skill and strength of the men and women performing.... some of the stuff they do just leaves me in amazement. I could care less what the scores are for them...

I have to say that the whole coverage by NBC sucked for most of the Olympics. Once again - too many behind the scenes documentarys and not enough of the coverage of events. I'm 7 hours behind Greece time, but it would still have been nice to watch more of the events, even if tape delayed. These are world class athletes and I want to see them go toe-to-toe. NBC would show one qualifying run of a track event, then nothing else until the finals... Or they show you just the highlights of an event and no actual coverage (live or tape delayed).

Was the coverage any different for anyone else OUTSIDE of the US?

I get cbc being close to Windsor, Canada (plymouth, michigan is my town). They had a lot of live coverage. I don't know how much of it was pretrial stuff but they tend to show EVERYTHING, for better or worse.

I imagine it was less canned in other countries than NBC. Though, I agree sometimes those stations can be too blah. I mean how many "behind the scenes" stuff can you take on international competitions. If you want to watch it all you want to see the ACTUAL events.

What cracked me up was the "we now join the (event) already in progress." Its not live!

I watched a lot of CBC coverage, and they had great coverage. And it wasn't just canadians being covered. they showed live events that Canada wasn't even a part of. they had athlete bios not just about Canadian athletes, but about athletes from a whole lot of countries. i watched a bit of the nbc coverage too, and I may be biased :P , but I'd have to say I liked the CBC coverage better.

  17. I wonder, since CBS, NBC or was it ABC has billions in video hardware there if they don't "sell" their broadcast to other countries for later broadcasting (with their own commentary of course)

    Hello,

Dvd_ripper - I wouldn't think so. There were probably HUNDREDS of media over at the olympics. Thousands of cameras also. They wouldn't NEED OR WANT to buy from us Americans. Especially since so many seem to hate us! .

What's wierd is that if you watch, for instance, the gymnastics... you don't see multiple camera setups 'inside the floor area' ... you see one with NBC plastered on it.

i noticed that to and wondered about that. NBC probally does resell the video from the olypmics but not the audio (is probally done by each country)

The IOC sold their souls to NBC for broadcast rights for the Olympics. But I'm sure that they have various networks around the globe that have similar rights as well to broadcasting the coverage. TV is not exclusive to we Americans - they have it in other countries as well ..

As stated above, CBC covered it for Canada. I'm sure Europe had multiple networks covering it there as well as Asia, Austrailia, etc...

With all the money flying around, you can bet that the IOC makes a pretty penny off of broadcast rights.

I will say one thing, the entire western press spent three years saying Athens would fark it all up, with a crescendo of scare mongering over terrorism and unfinished venues right up to the first day.

Bravo to Athens and to Greece. even down to small details like olive wreaths instead of brand name commericalism it was a great olympics.

Women's Gymnastics...there were some fine little hotties to gawk at as usual. Although most would require a bit of jail time and family embarrassment afterwards.
