okay this is seriously pissing me off. I just got my 100 dvd-r order from the states and after waiting a year to finally break down and buy the taiyo yuden's I WAS excited to try this thing out. Keep in mind I can burn cd-r's absolutely fine. The DVD drive is the Plextor 708A. I load the dvd-r into the drive everything seems fine, I rip it with dvd decrypter or dvd shrink, everything still dandy til this point and when i go to burn it with nero 6 it just locks up and its pissing me off. I've downloaded firmware updates I've even reformatted the HD (due to virus) and it still won't work. I thought my problem of this happening was just because of my cheap media ( memorex ) but it wasn't. It's going to piss me off that 9 months ago I paid 350 for this drive and if I were to have to sell inorder for this shit to work I wont' even get half. Hope someone has some info or suggestions on why my comp is a piece of shit.

    thanks ppl.

If you check out the Plextor forum at CDFREAKS.COM you will see that some people do not use NERO 6 to burn. I use NERO BURN version 5.5.10.42 and have no problems with burning. You could update to the latest version of NERO or use version 5.5 instead. Where did you get the TAIYO YUDEN DVD-R from? There supposedly are FAKE TAIYO YUDENS going around. I just got my TAIYO YUDEN DVD-R 4x PRINTABLES from RIMA.COM. Look at the hub of the TY to see if there is a serial number, if there is then they are the real mcoys.

I would suggest you use a older version of DVD SHRINK like 3.05 BETA. You can download it from here:
    http://mrbass.org/dvdshrink/dvdshrinkold/

Then use NERO to burn. There have been problems with using the built in Nero in the last 2 versions of DVD SHRINK.

As for MEMOREX DVD/CD MEDIA it's considered crappy media! Stick with the RECOMMENDED BRANDS OF DVD MEDIA that PLEXTOR supports and you'll do fine. What firmware are you using in your 708a drive? I would suggest you read the FAQ at the Plextor forum.

I got mine and my cases from supermediastore.com and yes I checked the middle of the disk and there is a serial number but thanks for the heads up as i woudl not have had any idea. I'll post again if the burn doesn' turn out or something

    thanks again
