First off the drive is the retail version which comes with Nero Express v6, inCD, Sonic MyDVD Deluxe, and PowerDVD v5. The drive itself is a 12X dual format, and dual layer drive at 2.4x. As a bonus the drive comes with two faceplates one white and one black. Also the shipping is free from the site in my link and the package arrived three days after ordering. Now the good part for me is that this drive is able to burn four different lots of cheap media I had purchased in the past that my 4X Sony, Pioneer, and NEC drive would not. All four disks play perfect in all three players I have at home (I was getting close to throwing out the media, all 150 or so disks).

I also tried four different 8x DVD+R media disks which were TDK, Optodisc, Taiyo Yuden, and Ritek RiData. All these discs burned perfect at 8X. I'm now thinking about ordering another two of these drives to replace my 4X Pioneer and Sony drives. Anyway IMO this drive does work exceptionally well for a mere $72 and the software also has some value FYI.

  2. I just bought the Pioneer 108 for $92 this last weekend. I think I would personally spend the extra $18 for the pioneer. I was looking for the nec 3510 but found this instead.

  3. Can the Optorite burn DL media with DVD-ROM book type? Else it's more or less worthless as a DL burner at least.

  4. The fact that my Pioneer 105 won't burn four different brands of 4X media doesn't give me a strong urge to buy another one.

I just discovered that I can rip a full DVD in less than ten minutes with the Oporite burner so it's not locked at 2X like so many other burners are.

Don't know and because of the price of dual layer media Idon't see myself doing any DL burning. I assume it does since it is in fact a dual layer burner.
