I have an avi file I want to convert to mpeg at a new frame rate. I know this is not a regular avi file because the only program I could get to even recognize it was PWI, TMPGEnc gives the error "File cannot open or unsupported." if I try to open it. Is there a way I can find out what type of file it is and a convertion program that will support it? I will try to explain better.
I have a non-standard (Don't know exactly what) avi format video file, which is encoded at 20 fps.
I want to convert this to 25 fps but PWI would only let me encode it to 23fps, so I did this and was left with an mpg 1 file which was at 23fps but the audio was out of sync.
So, I took this file, which could be read by TMPGEnc so I used TMPGEnc to take the audio from the original avi file and encode it with the video from the mpeg 1 file. This left me with an mpeg 1 file at 19.98fps with the audio in sync.
I then tried to use first EZ Cd Creator to make a video cd with it, but cd creator refuses. Then I tried Nero, which worked, but warned that it would not play, it was right, the video cd doesn't work. I am sure this is because it is at 20fps so I would like to take the original avi file, and convert it directly into an mpeg at 25 or 30 fps, preferably 25.
Can anyone suggest how I can do this, or help me get TMPGEnc to recognize the original file? I really need some help.
Thanks a lot.

To me it sounds like you've picked up an avi encoded with divx. Look in the tools section to the left and get the divx4.02 codec and install.
I've been doing the same trying to pickup some B5 and Enterprise captures. Most of the better ones I'm finding are in divx avi format. TMPGenc should take care of it in no time. -
Thanks! I got the Nimo file and not TMPEnc sees the file, I'm converting now and hopefully it will work. Thank you!
I have one more question, will converting to a new frame rate unsync the audio? -
Ok, it converted frame and audio-wise WONDERFULLY. The only problem is, the frame has a purple/pink tint every so often, and will dissappear every so often, but it is very noticeable. Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening?
Thanks -
Well I couldn't fix it so I'm using avi2vcd which seems to be converting without the purple parts, but it takes HOURS, a REALLY REALLY long time. And I don't even know if it will unsync the audio.
Can no one help me get rid of the purple/pink stuff?
