....some of my DVDS are playing with this weird red tint (that fades in and out about every 10 seconds) and a little bit of jerking. I noticed it only in a couple of newer DVDs I bought from different places...however the older ones still play okay. All of the DVDs play ok on my computer, but the newer ones give the red tint on my TV. I dont want to throw out a good DVD player if i just have a problem with somethign else?![]()

Bring the DVDs over to a friend's house and see if they do the same thing.

How is the DVD player connected to the TV? Is there a VCR or computer in the middle?
This sounds like a Macrovision issue.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

I changed the topic subject so it actually describes your problem.
-
yep...this happened to me when I accidently ran the dvd player thru the vhs tape player...macrovision thinks you're trying to tape it
you'll need to take the tape player out of the equation and hook the dvd player up to only the tv -
ah -ha. you guys are smart. im glad i didnt throw out my dvd player. its weird tho, when i try to hook up dvd without the VCR (yes it was thru a VCR) i cant get it to play at all. the defining factor that the DVD player worked with the VCR seems to be I could change the 'line' with the VCR remote...however the 'menu' button on the DVD remote does not do anything. i have to hook the DVD player thru the cable box with either an 'S' cable or component hook ups. the only kind of tv's i have (2) are with the one standard cable plug in the back, nothing else. the DVDs work on my computer just fine.

...i hope i dont have to do that program of my DVD player (phillips) into the tv (sharp or magnavox) with those numbers they list in the huge remote guide the cable company gives you. i think i tried that too, but it gets kinda ...???? so if that is it then when i push the 'DVD' button on the cable remote, will that sort of be the 'line' switch i was previously doing with the VCR remote?

If your TV only has a RF input and nothing else then it must be old as dirt ... time for a new TV.

You need an RF modulator to convert the DVD player's AV line outs to coax.
This is one example with S-Video and RCA ports, http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103095&tab=summary but there are plenty of others.
Depending on what you get, you might also need a A/B switch to select the RF source you want (A=coax from DVD player via RF modulator, B= coax from VCR).
Of course a new TV would work too. -
thats poo!!!! but i can see them with the vcr!@!@! maybe can get one on ebay for like 5 bucks. im not picky with the tv stuff...as long as i can see and hear it, im good. save my money for travel eh.

yep...that's it...it's also an auction
you'll probably need cables, too
better off buying a used tv off craig's list IMO
where do you travel for $27? -
Check out the DVD hacks for your DVD player, some of the hacks disable macrovision as well as making them multi region. this would get over your problem
-
for 27$ ...eh no where, but i cant see spending 27 on somthing i can get for 5$. Its a chick thing...electronics and stuff.ehhhh.....but we'll spend $$ on the shoes and etc. lol

That was an example. I picked it at random.
If you did a Google search for "RF Modulator" and looked at what was availiable, you'd see a lot of different ones and all kinds of prices for new ones, used ones, whatever.
Any RF modulator with red-white-yellow RCA connections will meet your needs. I have seen them at my local K-Mart, Walmart, Target, and even a Rite-Aid drugstore, though the prices I remember are around $20. If you want to spend $2 + shipping for someone else's junk at an Ebay auction that may or may not be in working order, that is also an option, though personally I'd prefer to be able to easily return the merchandise if it turned out to be defective.
A simple manual A/B switch at K-Mart or a hardware store costs around $5, but you would probably only need it if the RF modulatior did not have multiple inputs. -
hey thanks guys....that phillips looks ok. ill let you know how it turns out
-
awesome...worked great. got my RC mod on ebay for 8$ i think. i had the cables too. so glad i didnt toss my DVD player.
