    Hello DV fans

    Just as the subject line says. This is the error whenever I run:

    * DVIO

    * winDV

    However, the only application my pc can see my CAM or ADVC-100 is:

    * RsDvCap.exe

    I can view video and capture (transfer) it to my pc w/ no problems. The
    quality is excellent. However, I'm not too concirned w/ being abot to view
    it, and also, I RsDvCap.exe only captures in Type 1 format. So, vdub will
    not open w/ audio because of vdub's limitation.

    I would like to use DVIO becase it reports frame drops, though not that
    I'm worryied, but I'd like to know, just in case.

    I've tried server other Firewire cords, and even Firewire cards. But my pc
    can only recignize my cam/advc-100 through RsDvCap.exe !!

    Just to note here, that in my previous DV endevors, I used to be able to
    use my DV cam and ADVC-100 w/ DVIO (and RsDvCap.exe) before I had
    pc problems, and stopped using it for a while. Now that I"m back to using
    DV, I facing this "pin" problem. ( I know its not the wire )

    Any advise or suggestions as to what is the problem here, would be
    greatly appreciated

    My OS is Windows 98 Gold.

    Thanks,

    Actually, it doesn't need to be set this way. I think that
    you are talking, "passthrough". And this is not the route
    that I'm taking.

    My cam (or ADVC-100) will work fine w/ RsDvCap.exe.
    but *not* at all w/ DVIO (or winDV) !!

    Thanks for your response,

    Sorry for the miss-communi'k

    I think that what I was actually saying, was that in all my
    past DV endeavors (which I did for over a year) was that I
    never had to do that or worry about that "..cam set to OUT.."
    step. Now, all of the sudden, I'm asked if I set that.
    You must understand, that I'm confused by your suggestion
    because I never had to do this in my every day DV'ing around,
    not to mention, my many "out of the blue" aquicky DV captures.
    Also, there is no such step for the ADVC-100 and it worked
    flawlessly in my past endeavors.

    A walk in history..

    In order to get my DV recignized and working on my pc, I had
    to do a clean install of my Window 98 Gold from *scratch* Which
    is what I did the first time, a year ago or so. And, this is the
    same OS that I used in my past DV endavors for more than a year and
    with no problems. In fact, both devices (even cable, though other
    cables were tried) are still being used. The same cable (from last
    year) is being used now, but only works when I run that RsDvCap.exe
    app .. Same cam and ADVC-100 device, works perfectly w/ this app.
    Just different time-zone is all that changed, really.

    Any other suggestions ??

    ** Update **

    Well, I may have an answer (and fix) ...

    Apparently, I have DirectX 5 on my system. I found a number of other
    versions of ...X that I D/L 'ed over time, and I found ver 8.1a on my hd.
    Since ADS recommends a min of ver 8 I'm going to give this a go.
    .
    I read that version 8 and above added in other DV support. My best guess,
    is that, in addition to DV CAM support, that version 8 is including *other*
    external devices (ie, ADVC-100) and specs. Anyways.

    I'll report back my results.

    ** UPDATE **

    Well, here's another one.

    I am able to use the following sofware apps to capture (transfer) DV from my
    cam or advc-100, to my computer:

    * RsDvCap.exe - - type 1 only w/ 32k audio only.
    * wmcap.exe - - type 1 only - sound is untested at this time.
    * dvapp.exe - - type 1/2 but w/ 32k audio only.. go figure.

    Using the above, all the video quality is excellent. However, there still
    remains the issues of Audio (I want 48k) and the issue w/ Type 2 format.

    DVIO is the only app that gave me these features.

    Following apps that do not work w/ my dv cam and advc-100 are:

    * DVIO
    * winDV

    When trying these two apps, I continue to get the same old error message:

    Error, could not find DVcam output pin. is cam connected?

    Remember, the above error is from my dv cam, and my advc-100
    whichever one I try, it doesn't matter.., same error message.

    Anybody with some other suggestions ??
