Ha ha! I finally solved my reception problems. I went to CompUSA and pickup up a directional antenna. At first, I connected it to one of the antenna connections on the router, but it didn't help at all. In fact, it actually got worse. I was ready to give up and just run the cables under my house and hide them, so I could move the router back upstairs.

Then, a stroke of genius. I replaced the stock antenna and connected the one that I bought to my pc. Works like a freaking charm. I always suspected that my wireless network card had a crappy antenna, because my wife's powerbook always had better reception. Even when the router was upstairs. I wasn't sure if it would work, but I gave it a last ditch attempt, since I already wasted $29.

    Whoo hoo!

So when was the last time you "beat" your computer and didn't end up tossing it on the lawn?

  3. What router do you have? I have a D-Link D524 and one of my computers always have weaker signals even it's closer to the router...maybe I should look into the antenna thingie too

I don't see why you guys have problems with them. I am using a Netgear wireless router, and my other desktop is about 50 ft away from the router and it still gets 57% (Good) reception most of the time. :P

Brick wall and about 40 ft. away here, it's either good or very good.
