    Hello,

The only way I can see MPAA would be able to stop the downloading of movies 100% is to BAN BROADBAND!!!!!!!! I know there's no way I could download even a 700mb vcd movie on my dialup connection (I could but who would want to leave there computer on for days for a VIDEO CD movie????)

    Kevin

---Just imagine Comcast, SBC, and all the other Broadband providers reaction to this kind of a proposal!!!! -----

I seem to remember a neat product that would allow you to use several modems at the same time, at least getting you into the ISDN realm of speeds.

I think it was called bonding the modems, and there was nothing special needed with NT4 or better.

MPAA Should BAN BROADBAND to stop Pirates!!!!

They have to be dreaming and this isn't going to happen.

I am on dialup and so slow. I even managed to download a big 278 MB file from Microsoft on WinXP SP2.

The download have taken my PC 15 hours to compete as so long.

Ban broadband, not in my life and as unworkable.

    Hello,
I believe I said that's what they WANT to do. I never said they could or would.

I cant stand dial up connections, I would go insane waiting for web pages. I wouldnt be able to stream music to work from my home computer anymore. I only wish my upload was faster than it is.

Most isp's cap your upload speed to improve your download speed.

I can upload at 40k/s from my ftp server, just wish it was double that, I would sacrifice a little download speed b/c my side is usually not the limiting factor anyway.

  15. I would rather give up the Internet than go back to dial up. I live in the country and I got really slow connections. I once downloaded a version of Mandrake Linux and it took me 3 days.

    I agree with you hudson,

  19. Home - I have dial up as I am too cheap for broadband and dial up is free (RAS thru work)

Work - I have T3 line to internet .... so that, plus a few 256Meg Flash Drives, and I'm set... Nothing I can't wait till the next business day to get at work and bring home

I have explicit permission from my ISP to hook it up. My brother lives next door and I have him hooked up through my router. The ISP said they didnt care but they would not support any problems that occured with it. Like I need them for tech support 8)

dialup is ok, if you multibrowse forums then it's no different to broadband. as for large files, you just queue them in a download manger when you go to work, they get done when they get done.

Ironically i download LESS (read - none) music today on my 700k connection than i did five years ago on my 56k.

Maybe I'm a technosnob. But for those who have broadband available (I can only speak for SBC territory), facotring in the cost of a 2nd phone line, per call costs and possibly voice mail along with the monthly service charges to an ISP, you've practically paid for basic broadband service. SBC DSL starts at $27 for up to 1.5Mbps (T-1 speed) downstream and 128Kbps upstream. The modem is basically free. Also for those who already have DSL with SBC and think they might be close to the local CO, SBC has a 3Mbps plan for $37 (which also includes a 1yr sub to XBOX Live and the starter kit) as well as an unadvertised 6Mbps plan for $45 that they don't list on their site. I'm on the 6Mbps plan and my speed test are right around 5Mbps. I get close to 700KBps dowloads using GetRight.

Just in case anyone is wondering, I am in no way affiliated with SBC and I don't get any kickbacks. I just think that 'friends don't let friends surf dial-up.'

(Truth be told I'm being selfish, I think to an extent, the large amount of dial-up users still out there, hold back progress.)
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

Yes, slow to download a new webpage and dialup is one reason I don't normally listen to Internet radio and to download stream videos.

However, I can download a 60 MB video in just 5 hours and this is as one session time on dialup.

Once the video download is completed, I can view the video on a standalone file and no worries there using WMP9.

I don't expect to be on dailup forever and I am already planning of Broadband in the future.

I am just about to buy a router so that the broadband ADSL modem is shared in the network for the Internet.

This is the speed I am aiming for in the future and hopefully loading a webpage would be much faster and better.

BTW, my emails so slow too and I can't wait for improvements.
