  1. I been waisting time deciding whether to pick up the Lite-On 812 OEM drive ($60) or pick up a retail version ($68-72).

    Retail comes with 2 software.

Should I spend more money and get a nice box with the softwares (my concern is that I might never use this softwares)...

or save money and find all the softwares needed (ripping and burning to dvd) on doom9?? Help is appreciated.

I would save the money, most likely wont even use the software, there are great freeware tools available also.

  3. Hi. Would I be able to find all the freeware tools at doom9.org? I know dvdshrink is a good tool for ripping but I don't know a good tool for burning movies and what not to dvd.

  4. If the software only costs an extra $8, chances are its not too great. Most OEM software has its limitations, such as not including certain features that are only availible in the full versions.

If I were you I'd buy an OEM drive and use Freeware such as DVDshrink and DVD Decrypter.

    dvd shrink can burn also.

only tools you need to backup is dvd decrypter and dvd shrink.

thats all you need but could use more.

  6. Save your money.... the software normally sucks or is a LE (lite) version...get the OEM version. (check warrantees too - that may help you decide as well)

Maybe doom9 would be the place to ask that.

DVDShrink will allow seamless burning if you already own the burning app.

The only thing that may be useful in that box is WinDVD or PowerDVD.

  9. Yup, finally picked up the OEM drive.
I realized one disadvantage of an OEM kit. Warranty.

Hope the NEC 2510 drive lasts me long.
