I am only looking for a program to convert (encode) a couple of AVI files that are NTSC TV captures and get them burned to a DVD+RW for viewing on a stand alone DVD player. Something like this should be easy - one would think. Using Intervideo WinDVD Creator worked awesome for about the first 8 separate burns now it fails with a non-descript error message half the time. I have also tried to use the encoder built into Nero Express and let it author and burn it. This worked OK the first time. It played on my stand alone player fine but then the next burn my stand alone player pulled up the menu but it would not play the encoded file.

TmpGenc+ does not even recognize these AVI files. They play fine so they are not corrupt or anything. Tmpgenc recognizes files captured from DV camera as AVIs but it won't recognize several AVI's that are NTSC TV captures.

I have tried Pinnacle Studio 9.xxx and that program is huge waste of time. I won't go into details here.

I have downloaded and started to use DVDlab and it is pretty advanced for what I need right now since I will need to encode first. I will need to use Tmpgenc or a similar package first. This package looks to be good for authoring my home videos in the future but not for simple authoring.

I have spent quite a bit of time researching and testing different methods but this almost seems more like art that science. How can the identical process come out with different results each time??? Right now I am just looking for a quick, dependable (it seems like when it comes to encoding/decoding that nothing is as easy as it should be) method to convert a couple of AVIs to be viewed on a standalone player. I have tried the quick erase, full erase, and also to let the DVD authoring program handle the deleting for the DVD+RW. I have been reading a lot of posts here and on usenet groups and I have been trying different trialware applications but what success has other people had doing *simple* authoring???

    I will be trying next:
    Reinstall WinDVD Creator
Sony screen blast (This was a bust DVD authoring disabled in the trial version- Come on damnit
    Sonic MyDVD

    Any thoughts??

Since I am still learning what posts should and should not be used, I am confused again, why was this post marked as a breach of the forum rules?

I am asking not to dispute the why, but so I can avoid getting the same warning in the future should I need to ask a similar question.

    Heh...

You didn't get a warning, that's his sig. And if you actually did get a warning it'd be added to the bottom of the post that got you in trouble.

    Not to worry.

Use GSPOT to see what you have. If you do not understand the source, you can never hope to make a good end product.

Add a XVID codec to your system. It's in the TOOLS section of this site.

Ewww. MS products are a bad enough plague for a PC to begin with, why would anybody willingly log onto their network?

Frameserving streams the video (and audio) direct from one program to another without saving to an intermediate file. Guide here.
