  1. I have a few AVI-files with 5 channel sound (checked that using G-spot and Avi Codec). When I try to use VirtualDub Mod to extract the AC3 sound from the AVI-file nothing happens. I see the AC3 sound in the stream list but when I try to Demux it I come back to the stream list window. Is there another way to extract the 5 channel sound from the AVI-file?

Hopefully someone have a solution to my problem.

Use virtualdub, and load the file, then in the audio tab make sure "direct stream copy" is checked, then under file, click on "save wav" it will output the file as an ac3, but named as a wav., so then just rename the file extension to .ac3.

You could also try TMPGenc MPEG Tools and try a 'Simple De-multiplex'

  4. Hello again,
I tried your tip on using virtualdub and extract the waw and renaming it to ac3 but both the extracted waw file and the renamed ac3 only has an electronic sound in it.
Tmpgenc and Simple De-multiplex only works on mpg-files, not avi.

    More confused then ever.

You need to run it through ac3fixgui to get rid of the wav headers.

  6. I tried using ac3fix but when I hit the process button nothing happens. Is there something wrong with the avi file although I can play it in Windows Media Player and convert it with 2 channel sound to .mpa and .m2v?

Here's a real simple way to do it, I use it all the time. Open the avi in DVD2SVCD and start the conversion. Stop it after it extracts the AC3 audio file and there you have it! Never failed me yet.

Did you install any AC3 codecs...? I downloaded an AC3Filter so maybe it will work after that?

  9. I copied the ac3fix.exe to the windows directory and then the program worked great. Thanks for the tip. But now I got another problem. The DVD player now indicates that itīs 5.1 sound but the sound file is now silent. Whyīs that?
I installed AC3 filter a while back since that was the only way for me to handle 5 channel avi files.
I havenīt tried DVD2SVCD yet but I will.

I take it thats your standalone?
Do you hear the sound if you play the complied dvd files in windows?

  11. I can hear the sound when I play it in Windows but it has electronic disturbance in it. Is the 5 channel sound in the avi-file corrupt? When I extract 2 channel sound it works fine.

    electronic disturbance
like a load of beeps and poping - this is normally because its got wav file headers (ac3fix)
All I can suggest is to run both ac3 files through ac3fix and play the extracted ac3 files in windows before compiling your dvd to see if they play ok, if they do there shouldn't be a problem.

  13. Hello again,
I know have gotten ac3 files that have sound in them but they still arenīt ok.
They only sound in 2 speakers, the other 3 speakers only have buzz in them.
Does anyone know how I correct that to get sound in all 5 speakers?
