Hi - I just got a Panasonic DVD Recorder shortly ago and found that usually only Panasonic DVD Players will actually play the RAM discs.

I have my old 600a 9/99 LH 600a as well as the crappy 500 that looks like it can't be changed inside - but am not 100% sure.

If I get a DVD-Rom drives that is capable of playing DVD-Ram (like the LG models) and swap it with the one in the 600a would that enable the unit to playback dvd-ram or would it be a no go no matter what?

    Thanks for any information

Personally I do not think it will work because DVD-RAM video files do not have the same format of plain MPEG or VOB files. In addition the Apex player may not recognize the naming convention of these files.

  3. If you have a DVD-RAM compatible drive, give it a go. I seriously doubt that any damage could be done in trying. Lots of PC drives can read them... Lite-On/JLMS drives for instance.

  4. I have my doubts because the player's factory firmware doesn't recognize DVD data disks (only DVD Video). The OFFA (modifed Sampo 631CF), however, can recognize a DVD data disk (+/-R[W]) filled w/ MP3's or MPG files if setup to do so (and assuming the reader will load it!). What do you get if you offload a ton of MP3's to a DVD-RAM (assuming these would be data disks)?

There's another problem, the 600A verifies the DVD-ROM on bootup and some DVD-ROM drives will not respond and the 600A will not work. I had a 600A and I know that my Hitachi and Sony DVD-ROM's would not work.
