Nope. Ramen. Close your eyes and pretend there really is meat in there.

I'll go for the ramen... because with about $3 worth of vegetables from the market, you can use the ramen, the vegetables and some soy sauce and/or hot sauce and make several meals worht of some killer stir-fry.

  7. Cheesy peas. Boil Sainsbury's low price peas. Grate as much cheese as you can afford. Sprinkle cheese on drained peas. Eat from pan to save washing up.

    Lovely jubbley!

Voted Ramen, however after getting to the point that the thought of eating them makes me ill I switched to spaghetti which is a much better option. If you use little to know meat you can make a HUGE ammount for pretty cheap, obviouslly not as cheap as Ramen but it sure taste alot better.

3 loose potatoes from supermarket £0.25.
boil them and sprinkle with black pepper, if funds allow a knob of butter.

  17. Ring up local fast food place. Abuse them for forgetting something from the menu and making your kid cry.

    Result: Free food.

Self respect doesn't get you very far when you're starving.

    Indoliika,

Per your other post, now we see why you will be good till you're 97. Your wife works, and is 32 years younger than you, so till she turns 65 and quits, you're set.

    Cheers,

    George

BTW, I don't run out of food, I am not a student (I do sympathise ) but I can make anything to keep me going, just with some of the scraps, that I might never use, in my cupboards.

Hell, if I ever dug into my freezer, and ate only from there, would probably last 6 months. I don't like to thaw stuff, so anything I freeze is out of sight out of mind, go buy more.

    Ramen noodles=7 for $1 (10 for $1 sometimes...)!!!
(aren't hot pockets a lot more expensive???)

All I had one time (except for some cereal) was some Ramen...went searching for different ways to prepare...came upon this:

    http://mattfischer.com/ramen/recipe.html

    Now I use it weekly...

Beans and Hamhocks with cornbread on the side. Cheap and lasts a few days. Just don't go to a job interview until you purge the gas. What I always did was to cultivate a few married friends. Their wives feel sorry for the 'Poor bachelor' and invite you to dinner. Watch out for the wives, though. They want to set you up with their unwed sister. Can be dangerous.

I used to LOVE hot pockets but for some reason, they just dont taste as good anymore.

As for other broke food, I love michelinas(sp?) frozen cheese pizza. It's not as cheap as ramen but it tastes better.

My dad owns a blimpies around where I live so there's no food problems for me anymore. :P

I doubt it. He might have considered buying the Ramen company ... I think Billy Boy has always been a rich kid. He was a student at Harvard when he dropped out to form Microsoft back in the '70s. Billy might have once known someone who once ate Ramen ...

Macaroni and cheese ......when I had to rely on it to stay alive it was about 19 cents a box and I could get 2 meals out of a box if I needed.

Except for that time he got arrested (someone posted the mug shots not too long ago)
Didn't look like he could afford a haircut nor even some clearasil when those were taken

I agree with macaroni - a number of ways to make some good use out of a box.

Also agree with Flaystus - pasta, especially spaghetti, is very cheap and goes a long way.
Mix lentils with either - is filling and a great substiute for meat.

Rice is another option, peanut butter sandwiches...and there's always Campbell's Soup (was good enough for Andy Warhol )

Also, that you at least are able to manage staying connected to the 'net, you may as well give it shot to use a free web host and put some porn links on it - I hear a high school kid was pulling in $900 a month with porn links alone.

I remember that post. I think given the time frame ('77 wasn't it?) the hair was intentional - Billy Boy was a disco inferno . Don't kid yourself about his resources ....he may not have looked it but I don't think he ever has experienced any hardship in his life ....unless you call losing the verbal battle with Larry Ellison a few years back a hardship
Like you mention - peanut butter is a cheap, filling source of protein. I don't think hot pockets are a particularly cheap food if you're watching every penny - at least not here in the states. They're about $3.00 for a two-pack. Compared to Ramen noodles which are about 20 - 30 cents a serving. And I think I'd rather lose my connection than link to any porn sites. My soul comes at a higher price than that

    Careful!

She's a workaholic, much worse than her father is or has been at any point in his life. She takes every shift she can get at work and volunteers all the time to cover for other people. I keep telling her she doesn't have to work this hard but she says she enjoys it too much to stay away.

I, on the other hand, am the epitomy of lazy. We complement each other perfectly: she makes all the money and I have all the hobbies to spend it on. What more is there in life?

Oh, and for the record. We're both 32, but I'm 11 days older than her. I use that 11-day advantage to claim Alpha status in the household, or at least I try to. We all know how well that tactic works, don't we! :P
