  1. Any one have a suggestion on how to do it, or what software to use? Toast crashes when I try to use it for that.

OpenShiiva is a VOB to QT or XviD converter.

    Works well in my experience.

  3. Try DVDxDV or MPEG Streamclip, the latter doesn't yet handle AC3 audio.

  4. You can also use Cinematize. Keep in mind that a VOB can contain multiple movies, angles, soundtracks, etc. You can't just do "VOB to DV", you have to choose what part of the VOB file you want.

  5. MPEG Streamclip 1.1 now supports also AC3 audio.

I'm not sure why Toast crashes on you. If your vob has ac3 audio, you also need Jam 6 installed to make the dv conversion complete with audio. It will do video-only conversion to dv without Jam installed. I dont think it will handle a muxed vob containing PCM audio but I havent tested it yet.

  7. I'm a fan of DropDV because it creates an iMovie project as the default. This means no size limitations since iMovie cannot handle importing DV streams longer than 9 min. in duration. Just rip to VOB using OSeX or Yade X and then drop it onto the DropDV icon.
