Ok lets say i make a simple yet fancy dvd menu with selected chapters...around 5 chapters lets assume. Is it possible to put a lock on one of them.
In other words, not accessible without a password?. Im thinking it might be possible since it would be a good idea? And of course the password would be from 0-9 in variations of any limit. Anyone

This might be possible, however it would be complex. You could not do it with straight chapters, but is you authored using branching, with the restricted chapter on the branch, you could create a menu set that mimics a combination lock to allow access. Check out the DVD Lab tutorials at mediachance.com for an example. You will also need an authoring app capable of doing branching. Agains, DVD Lab Pro can help.
Otherwise, a similar approach could be used, but putting the restricted clip as a seperate clip would be easier to do as it could be authored in any app. -
Werheey I just did this on a roadtrip film one morning the guys drove off cos i stayed in bed too long so we played around with their chocolates, you know down our pants and stuff, but i didnt want em to see the "deleted Chocolate Scene" so on the extras menu when it came up i made a ATM cash machine type menu where you had to enter a pin number for it to come on, get it wrong and your screen went fuzzy with a 70's checksum error on it then it dumped you back to the extras menu, if you tampered with it i.e. press stop and goto title and chapter it checked a GPM variable and did a 40 second fit inducing strobe advising you to turn the T.V. off quick and if you got it right, you got to see "Chocolates"
The above can only be done with apps that support command sequences or similar i.e. Maestro / Scenarist i used Maestro, each button press on the code either went to wrong command seq or right Command seq with an adder so the player knows 4 number have gone in if the counter is 4 and the right numbers count is 4 then "chocolates" goto title X Chapter X if not then goto "wrong number" . also for good measure once the clip plays a small break (fade to black) checks one more time to really make sure the correct presses = 4 if not then goto "tamper" chapter then to BUTTON locked FIRST PLAY to encourage even less tampering lol.
A bit long winded the above and i guess rather vague but i have posted this so you could see the thinking and execution behind a method that actually works for me pretty well, and it was my first attempt. There are 10 kinds of people, those that understand binary and those that dont. -

Hey you got me intrigued now what is the subject matter/content of your LOCKED chapter lol.

Well, actually I went to a car auto show and I filmed a bit of cars, abit of races, and abit of ass... So I want to put a lock on the ass part since its a family dvd and I dont want my cousins viewing this kind of material. Or better yet thinking Im a pervert hahah. Although the general idea is useful for many other things but since you asked what is was for I might as well tell ya and be honest bout it hehe.
